I spent over four years in Germany while in the military and as a truck driver, I was able to see most of Europe quite frequently and for free. I was completely dissapointed with France, I went to Paris four times and each time was just okay. Where I lived in Germany was only 4 hours away from Paris, which is the reason I went there so many times. About the only thing that I enjoyed in Paris was the Louvre museum - the home of the Mona Lisa and the Eiffel Tower. Other than that it was dissapointing. The fact that they don't really like americans doesn't help their cause either. The people were rude and the women, well, let's just say that it was a different breed. Great Britain was cool, day and night, those people know how to party and all of the sights were great. But if you really want to enjoy history Germany would be your best bet. It is really clean and there is so much history there that I wasn't able (in four plus years) to see it all. The festivals are great, the people are friendly (only indoors) and the women are plentiful and beautiful. You will also run into a lot of american troops, which is why most Germans can speak at least some english. At night you can go to the clubs. In the day you can see all of the castles or go to the vineyards. The home of the coo coo clock is in the Black Forrest, in the southwest of Germany. To get around there is this little road called the autobahn - it's an awesome thing no speed limit for most of the highways. There is a whole lot of things to do in Germany, you just have to go.

Interesting, well thought out comment. I probably agree with you on the whole, and, without being offensive or stereotypical of the French, I did find them on the whole to be quite rude / arrogant. I was in Brittany at the time - perhaps the arrogance is a specific thing? Been to Germany twice now. Berlin last, that was OK - nothing particulaly amazed me if I'm honest. But in 2002, I went with the school to Boppard / Koblenz - the Rhine (Rhein) looks fantastic! I think I really appreciate these kind of sightings, but, have you heard of the Deutsche Ecke? Where the Rhine meets another river (sorry forgot the name, Danube is it?!). Well it was very serene anyway! Oh and Great Britain - tolerant of everything and anything, doesn't really have much of an identity anymore. But I'm British, I have to be biased, and I reluctantly stand by this flag.

Mainly due to being limited to the English language, I have no better alternative but to choose Great Britain. Though there may be many interesting things in the other two countries, I would surely learn lesser and find myself lost if I do not know what are written around me.
