Taxation on earnings ...

Do you wish that instead of having to pay taxes on our earnings and on the goods we buy, we just paid more tax on the goods and services we purchase and no direct taxation of earnings.
Surely those that wished to be frugal with their money and not buy the latest gadgets and gizmos everytime a new one came out would benefit from this .. and if we were having hard times we could save a lot of money by only spending on absolute essentials and therefore pay only a little tax ...
Do you think enough taxation money would pass to the Governement through indirect taxation .. or would it just become even more of a red tape nightmare for businesses?

This might be a great idea. That way, we would have some control over our taxes
by how much we spend as consumers. If the government didn't get enough revenue, to bad. They waste so much of our tax dollars they haven't proven they know how to spend it wisely. I am all for changing the current system. When are you running for President? I know you are in the UK, but we need good ideas over here too. (US)

That would be good especially those who go out and buy those big four wheeled petrol guzzlers which are a drain on the economy and on the global warming effect. In other words taxing the rich more and helping the poor. I think the tax structure at the moment is unfair and the directors of companies should be taxed at a higher rate and the amount of tax in our tax codes limit should be much higher. Unfortunately even if you are frugal you do not benefit. Food or shall I say tax for thought!
