My dad said to me that andshake is a short ritual in which two people grasp their right or left hands, often accompanied by a brief shake of the grasped hands. It is commonly done upon meeting, departing, offering congratulations, or completing an agreement. Its purpose is to demonstrate good will, and possibly originated as a gesture showing that the hand holds no weapon. Among friends and family members, men are more likely to shake hands than women, however in business situations it is considered the standard greeting for both sexes.

I think it has become a sign of respect over the years, that people just shake hands to introduce themselves. I have heard that Donald Trump actually refuses to do it, and I think he uses it as a tactic when he does business. So, some people do it, while others don't do it.

I don't really know, but I think it's a way of gretting each other without having to speak the same language or something like that. In other words, it's a symbol everyone understands.
