Are there any tatters out there? I've learned to do just about every kind on needle craft but want to learn to tat and am having trouble getting started; holding the thread right and mastering the moves for the first half of double knot. (I think that's what it's called.)

Ok, I noticed this is really old, but I am going to respond anyway, just in case someone is listening :o). I tat and I love tatting! There is a website, I believe it is called 'This and Tat' that has really good instructions, with photos. It even points out the flip that is important and often lack of doing it cause people to not get the stitch right. Not doing the flip was the problem I had at the beginning. If you are talking about needle tatting, you might want to try shuttle tatting. I think it is easier to get the stitch right with the shuttle as opposed to the shuttle, but everyone is different. I can do it just with my hands now, if I have too, but still prefer the shuttle. :o)
