What is the difference between a hotdog and a sausage?

I am not a westerner so i cannot really distinguish the difference between the said foods, hotdog and sausage, can any one tell some thing about this. greetings. : )

All I know is hotdogs are smaller than sausages and they have a different color. Hotdogs are red and sausages can be less red.
