Toughest Jobs

I know there are many hard jobs out there, (doctors, nurses, fire fighters etc) but teaching has got to be one of the most frustrating ones(I'm thinking of teens here) In my old secondary school, the new first years that are coming in every year are getting cheekier. I've heard a story of a girl who was smoking in a classroom while their prefects were talking to them! Another class left a wreath on a teacher's desk which really upset them. Correcting essays and exams aside, i think that teachers have one helluva time trying to teach some kids. Some give back such cheek and there's not a single thing the teacher can do about it as many don't care about detention and getting their parents in. p.s. I DON'T want to EVER be a teacher!

I agree with you on this one. Being a teacher is realy difficult since there are different ways in approaching students and you have to adjust to their levels of understanding. There's also that tedious part of creating the course outline of what you're going to teach. Also, a teacher's skill is always reflected through their students' outcome at the end of the schoolyear.

ah but there's always a way around the results part, give your students 'hints' on what's coming up! Even in my second yr of college I've been told the questions coming up on my sociology paper, and other lecturers gave away stuff too....now if only i'd actually apply myself!

I know how I treated the teachers when I first started school, and I was really good compared to how some other people treated them. I doubt there is enough money at all for me to become a teacher, it is such a trying job, but I believe for the teachers in their minds the rewards are great,. they get to educate others, which was their goal.

unfortunately some aren't quite good enough to be teaching. I had a history/maths teacher who read straight from the history book, and can't save pass maths to save her life...my younger sister is much better at ranting than i am on this topic, she has a lotta beef with some of them!

I couldn't agree with you more. I remember when I was in primary school. The principal was the 5th grade teacher. From the first thru the 4th we were told by the 5th graders that when we got to the 5th grade and Miss Wright we had better behave because she had a leather strap with needles in it and wasn't afraid to use it. Of course by the time we got to the 5th grade we learned that the leather strap was just a hoax....however she did use the ruler on the palms of my hands a couple of times.....her report card on me was:"she continuely talks to her neighbors". That was the only failing mark I ever got.....bad conduct. Now a days rapping a student on the palms with a ruler, no matter how suave, would mean a law suit. Maybe we should have more discipline in school but of course, the teachers would have to be like doctors and take out "bad discipline" insurance.

I really can't imagine some of my teachers doing that...though on the other hand i suspect a few would get quite a kick out of not having to take the crap lying down anymore! But I think that there would be an uproar with parents and just about every child related society out there.

None of the job is toughest .....its individual mindset which make it tougher ....... Consider people who enjoy doing their job....... sweeper ..gardener .......farmer .......they involve lot of physical strain ......yet would u call them tough as compared to teacher, lawyers and other blue collar ones ......???

some jobs are physically demanding, but the crap that teachers have to put up with today...i had a teacher who was so fed up with us that he threw a stapler against a wall after having a rant! Another teacher was nearly in tears because my class would talk the whole way through our English lesson (she was an awful teacher)

Mental/Psychological pain is much more worse than physical pain. It's tough and yes I've seen lecturers and teachers going totally nuts screaming, shouting and beating up students. Well in parts of Malaysia the beating part isn't really like how the Western countries do things. The funniest thing is that only teachers that beat students with a cane or sometimes a broomstick actually gets feared and respected thus a quiet classroom.

Some really do struggle as far as discipline is concerned. But some just lose the class because they are bad teachers. I've had a few who just couldn't teach, it was torture and who's going to pay attention?

being a good teacher is a hard job in itself, especially if you're not naturally good at it. I've had teachers who have been excellent, and than those who couldn't interest you in a subject to save your life.

Teaching is a hard job I think. I babysit for two teachers that teach at a middle school in my area. They come in telling me all kinds of stuff that happens at school. I just could not be a teacher. I wouldn't be able to let them talk to me mean or do mean things to me without saying something mean back to them. I would end up getting myself fired LOL. But one of the teachers I babysit for doesn't take much "crap" from the students and she'll tell them about it in a heartbeat. She doesn't care if they get mad at her or not but most of the students respect her for being like that.

i dont think being a teacher is that bad . first, these people chose such profession, meaning, its their interest and they are aware of what to expect from their students (teens especially) and are prepared on how to deal with them. second, many teachers feel fulfilled seing their students graduate and see them become successful over the years. lastly,i think that the teaching profession is a calling thus making it easier for those who voluntarily chose it.

teachers may THINK they know how things will be, but some of them get it real bad. No teacher can predict how good or bad their class will be, and i think many are relieved when some students graduate, never mind feeling fulfilled!

Oh gosh i can imagine believe my son is in public school something Im not so proud of but the kids language is so terrible they have no respect and I sure teachers have to deal with all of that and pray that they never ever lose it cause i tell you it is probably tempting . This is definetly one of those jobs you have to have patience and have a love for what you do.

I feel the job of a bus conductor or a bus driver is the toughest....a conductor has to deal with the worst kind of people to the best....without hurting them or insulting them...a driver in turn has to drive through the busiest roads of a city ....without honking...causing accidents...and maitaining his cool...so i feel these are one of the toughest jobs ever...

yea my mother in law has to take crap all day, almost all her students dont give a crap if they are passing or failing and give her crap each and everyday! She cant do really nothing about it...except complain to the parents, which doesnt do any good! You cant teach a child who doesnt want to be taught, and you cant correct a childs mannors when their parents dont even give a crap about what their child is doing at school! So please if you are a parent, be active in your childs study! Care what your child does at school, it makes a difference not only to your child, whos going to need the knowledge in the future, but also it helps the teachers out a whole lot. PLUS its your responsibility!

Agree with students attitude nowadays. And to think me as an guy who just got around my 21st a few months back being chased or stalk by girls at the age of 16.. honestly, my eyes nearly popped when I saw my email and news I heard from my hometown since I've never ever seen or even expected things like that to happen. At my time just a few years back, no one would even chase or want to know someone who is like you never know before or even have a crush at. I think we must not blame ourselves, teachers or parents. We should think of a way to have a better education system in place.

There are probably tougher jobs but teaching would be tough, too. I always said it would be kind of a fun job (I'd go with high school since little kids are frustrating and middle schoolers tend to be very annoying / full of themselves). If I were super rich and wanted a job, I'd try teaching. It's kind of a shame that they pay almost nothing because they go to a ton of school and get nothing for it. In CA for example, you can go to school for 2 years to be a nurse and work at a State Hospital and they're paying about $7,000 a month after all the R&R (recruitment and retention) bonuses you get.

Teaching, I think nowadays teachers should learn how to use psychology on kids or be a bit immature and understand kids more, because yes they are pesky little kids but I guess passion for the job and also getting respected in a way is above all. My 2 secondary school teachers even at the age of 54 about to retire, both still sometimes act like kids and the way they deal things, of course you cannot satisfy everyone but as students some people appreciate it, while for me having to just know them would be the gift and honor of my life; which in a way, teachers are a very proud profession and you should always be proud of yourself without even thinking it as tough. I as a pharmacy student/technician really do respect nurses having to do ALL sorts of jobs, swiping and cleaning people's bottom, collecting feces and urine and do all the things not much people in the world would want to ever do. Working with them makes me feel for them in a way, knowing they get on-calls, things like that. Pharmacists do get on-calls too, but without nurses, I think health care setting cannot even function. Anyway, I think any job is tough, but as long as we have passion and love towards it. Crikey, I'd work day and night to save patients or help them if I am needed (as long as within my physical limits). And I always believe, what goes around, comes around. Saving a person or teaching a person or helping a person to be someone good or special in the future, might come around to help us in our kids or even ourselves if there's fate or destiny cross between both parties.

Since I was a young girl, I wanted to be a teacher...that is, until i started highschool and saw how bad the kids were. I told myself i'd never be a teacher! And thank God, because today you don't have to be in a highschool to see "bad" kids, they're already bad in 1st grade! My best friend is an educator in elementary schools, and once this second grader called her a cow!! And she saw this fourth grader girl and this fifth grader boy making out and touching each other!

It is not only the teacher's job that gives you pain or it is not that you have to struggle more being a teacher. In fact, to get a decent earning, you got to struggle everywhere and not only in your profession.Without regretting anything, just concentrate on your profession and believe that you can do well and in the process, you will do well for sure.....

i believe that in every job there are always good things and bad things...yeah, being a teacher may be tough...but wait till you also hear the tough things about other jobs..i think the best thing to do is to think positive, look at the bright sides about our job..so that we will still be happy despite the fact that our job is tough..

If the government didn't ban teachers from almost any form of punishment for the sake of "self esteem", there wouldn't be such ridiculous problems in schools like there are today. Personally, I think some of the toughest jobs are those that you do when you're 18 years old or so - the high school/college minimum wage jobs. You do way too much work for way too little money, and you can make a 10 dollar mistake and get yelled at, whereas in a higher paying job you can make a 1000 dollar mistake and not get yelled at as badly.

i agree, though in Ireland the min wage has gone up to about €8.30 or so, which is about $10.50 so it's not so bad, though in some places like Dublin you'll need every cent you can get.
