for me, garter snakes, several types of king snakes, cottonmouths, several types of rattlers, and copperheads. How about you? Please also tell me the area you live in.

I lived in south and central africa for many years and in all that time I only saw two snakes in the wild and they were scurrying away from me as fast as their little scales could carry them.

that's interesting...with the abundance of venomous snakes in that part of the world, i would have imagined you would have seen more...thank you for sharing that

The first snake I came across was on a walk bridge over a creek here in Florida. It was a Water Moccasin hanging on a tree limb over the bridge. We decided to go down stream a couple hundred yards and cross on the road bridge.

I live in Oregon and have only ever come across garter snakes and, once, a rattle snake. The rattle snake was in eastern Oregon, around the John Day Fossil Bed area. The garter snakes were in a variety of places, ranging from a friend's back yard to a nature park pathway, to a rural B&B in Washington. They're fun to see, but I am wary of wild snakes in general. My girlfriend has a young cornsnake who I get along very well with, though (only about 2.5ft long).
