Is marriage sacrifice of the individual freedom for the sake of healthy sociey?

Is marriage nacessary? Is individual freedom compromised? Is it necessary so that society would be sane and healthy? Is it necessary to ensure a healthy future generation? Is this why a married person considered more responsible, dependable and respectable member of the society?
