I am always slightly embarassed when people ask how my husband and I met. But truth be told, it was an aol chat room. We lived several states apart and after a few months of talking I mentioned that I need to come down that way for some personal busines and he offered to pay for my hotel room if I would drive a bit further and have lunch with him. Cheesy maybe, but I agreed. We we only online friends and I felt pretty safe. Long story short, friend became instant chemsistry in person and before I left that weekend we were planning our marriage and first child!! Now we are not young off the seat of our pants people so this was an incrediable move!! However, five years later, we are still as happy as can be, married and as you see by our picture, raising a beautiful little girl! Has anyone had any good or bad experiences to share with meeting people on the internet?

Hey MamaMiaNC :) Don't feel embarrassed... you're far from alone! I met my husband through a random instant message going on 6 years ago. He was in the Navy and they had sporadic access to IMs. I work online and had a program open for work. I wasn't in the habit of answering random IMs but I liked his screen name (it made me laugh) so I checked his profile. It said he was floating around on the water somewhere and looking for someone to talk to... so I caved and answered him. We hit it off right away and built a terrific friendship (emails, IMs, phone calls...) and then spent several vacations together. When he was finally discharged, slightly more than two years after our first IM, he came back to visit me again (I'm in Canada) and stayed. We got married, he became a great stepdad to my daughters and today is actually our 3rd wedding anniversary. That's the "Reader's Digest Condensed Version" of our experience LOL Granted, not all online connections are going to be positive... but ours was and I know several other people who met their spouse online through a number of avenues, including gaming. So, you see? It's not really embarrassing at all LOL ;) All the best to you, your husband and daughter!

LOL yeah, they sure did... at first. I remember the first time I planned a visit to go and see him. My sister was freaking out! Her first words were, "You're NOT taking my nieces, are you?" I assured her that my daughters were staying with our mom and she said, "OK... I'm still not comfortable with this but I feel better about that part." Now, she adores my husband... says he is the best thing to happen to me in a VERY long time. It's just a "different" way of life, meeting someone and growing a relationship online. I find that a person's ability to accept it (or not) is often a reflection of how much time they spend online themselves. Since I work online and have colleagues that I've known for years and never met in person, I guess I've adopted a more open view than someone like my sister who gets online for email and a bit of browsing and nothing more. How did your friends and family take the news?

Yes ive met and dated someone online. the second one i met is now my two year boyfriend. luckily we live in the same country and as well the same place. we chatted for at least 2 days then talked on the phone for several months then meet personally. we dated more for 2 years before becoming an official couple. funny coz when we started meeting each others friends, we do have friends in common. it is really a small world for both of us. everytime people asked us about how we met we just look at each other and smile. technology really helps in meeting new people from all around the world and even love stories can begin online.:)
