Dressing your dog

Is it ever a good idea to dress your dog? My sister does sometimes for special occasions and i think it looks funny but is it cruel? Everyone just seems to laugh at the dog which doesn't seem very nice!

I have dressed my dog up I think the only time it is cruel is if it hurts the dog .Alot of dogs enjoy the extra attention they get when dressed up .As pet owners we have to know our dogs and know thier temperment what they like and hate ,dogs like people are different .

Dressing them up once in awhile isn't a bad idea and I don't see anything wrong with it.
