healthy eating has gone through a lot of phases ,and pizza , like other dishes in the Mediterranean Diet, has been alternatingly praised and criticized according to the prevailing opinion on Carbohydrates . i happen to like pizza a lot, my favourite is Funghi , mushrooms with lots of olives and chili and mozzarella . so , is pizza good to eat because it contains little cholesterol and bad fat , and lots of carbs ,vitamins and good fat , or is pizza bad to eat because it is mainly carbohydrates which contributes to obesity and eventually glucose intolerance (diabetes) and hypertension ?

For the most part I think that Pizza is healthy, depending on the toppings and how much is eaten all at one time. Too much of a good thing such as pizza might add on unwanted pounds. But what the heck, it's good and if a person craves it then go for it. Anything the body craves is usually what the body needs.

Sometimes what the body craves is what the body needs - but many North Americans have trained our bodies to accept levels of fats, sugars, salt, etc. that are far more than is healthy. Accustoming ourselves to this means that, in many cases, our bodies will crave unhealthy levels of these things. Just wanted to note the caveat here. Thanks, ~Sara

I think it depends on how you make/order it. If you make your own pizza there really are *no* rules - for example, you can put some whole wheat flour in the crst to up the nutritional value. Use less cheese or a naturally lower-fat cheese. (We buy frim goat/sheep cheese that is *to die for* IMO.) Use leaner meats or less meat. You can order pizzas this way, (e.g., half the cheese) even at most of the big chains in North America. If you only ever eat thick crust, double cheese pizza - well, then yes - that's unhealthy and should be an occassional indulgence. ~Sara

you know what ive heard pizza was healthy because it has most of the food groups in it bread, veggies, meat (if you want), dairy, fat, and so on. but all the oil throws some people off. i guess if you make it at home it very healthy but buying it isnt the same.

Well it has a lot of protien for sure. But the bad things are more then the good things. Bad things in pizza are lots of calories (400 per slice), not much fiber. Overall if you eat pizza thinking it is healthy you are going to die happy with a heart attack so you decide your final verdict.

Pizza is the healthiest fast food. It gives a vegetable, starch, and dairy product to everybodys diet.

That depends on who you listen to. I watched "The Biggest Loser" when it was on, and they kept stating how unhealthy pizza is. It has quite a few calories per slice, and people can't seem to eat just one slice. One turns into two, then three, so on. In my opinion, I think it depends on the pizza. If you make a pizza with healthy toppings, it would definately be much healthier than my 3 meat pizza or my stuff crust pepperoni pizza that I love so much!
