I was watching a soap opra yesterday and the premise was of a grandfather trying to show his granddaughter that her husband was cheating on her. He sent a text message to his grand daughter, her husband and the mistress, telling them to meet in a barn (so the grand daughter could see) Now come on people, if I got a text from another number saying it was from my husband I wouldnt go cause it wasnt my husband telephone number. Anyway, I hate watching unrealistic movies and stuff. Like how come nobody has caller id or *69. It's insulting to me. What do yall think? Is it just entertainment so it should not matter or what?

Yes I am talking about Guiding Light. And *69 would be obsolete if they would atleast act like they have caller id. thx

I also think it's funny that someone will call someone else from a pay phone and it will show up on caller id who the person is. That happens all the time! I just shake my head and laugh ;)

I also get frustrated when the soaps do something stupid and unrealistic. I can't think of a specific example right now. Oh! I just thought of one! On All My Children, one character went in for an abortion 30 years ago. The doctor stole the fetus and implanted it in his own sterile wife. Now the child is back and just found out what happened.

Im very skeptical about movies or shows. People hate watching tv with me because Im always making comments like what you described. I cant stand science fiction for that same reason. Im always saying: "Yeah, like that could happen". Its hard for me to find a movie I like because of this reason....although my two favorite movies are Polar Express and the 2002 version of Peter Pan...and those are all fictional...he he...figures!

My husband is like that when it comes to the military on tv or movies. I do to at times. I was in the Air Force for 8 1/2 years and my husband is going on 8 years now in the air force. When it's something we know is incorrect, we shout at the tv.

They just want to produce shows and make money. Thats realy what its all about. And landlines only use *69. Not cell phones. But yes i know what you mean haha...

Your right. It is sometimes annoying watching unrealistic movies. However I think that in the case of fantasy movies it's good to be unrealistic. It's fun. ^^

i couldn't agree more with you... i watched so many soap opera movies in my country and i think some of the plots are just simply to unreal and unrealistic that now i stop to watch it altogether... may be they think that it is just for entertainment like what you say so they don't take it into consideration...

I really dont like also such kind of opera that far from realistic but maybe we just enjoy the story and dont mind simple things like that for us not to get annoyed.

Well, it is just a show and I like watching fantasy or adventure that isn't realistic so I guess I can't really blame people for liking these sorts of unrealistic situations. Honestly, real life isn't as fun and imaginary ones, so why always stick to it? Why not stretch your imagination a bit?

I know that there was a reason that I avoided soap operas, although my wife watches them, so I catch the occasional snippet as I walk past. What makes it really entertaining is the low budgets... I remember on scene where the two characters were amazed by a light in the sky, but the only thing you could see is the characters talking about it, while one of the stage spotlights in shining on them.

yeah, alot of stuff that happens on soaps are stupid. I sit there and say...no way!! That is so dumb...who wrote that one! I mean you see on soaps..Mom marrys a man, daughter gets pregnant by him..breaks up the marriage...okay THIS happens in YOUR family...are you ever going to go to a family event with your daughter and ex there? Come on! Get real!!

I think it's just entertainment or maybe the people who made that soap didn't think the premise through or maybe they just make a soap for the purpose of just making one and get away with it but I still would like to watch movies which are believable. Well, believable that it makes sense and do things that people are likely to do in a given situation.

I love watching fantasy, adventure, science fiction movies streches the imagination but atleast when watching them you're aware it's as such, a fantasy. But I love it. I don't watch soaps, but soaps depicts real life scenarios, so realistic events should happen on the story, don't you think? ^-^

Well how about Passions where Theresa was pregnant with her baby, and a surrogate for this other girl's baby at the same time and Ethan was the father of both of them. That was stupid. Or how Stephano on Days of our Lives came back to live 1,000 times before finally dying so he could go be on another soap. It's so dumb.

I think it is purely for entertainment. People probably watched what you saw and thought more about how they would love to do that to someone, instead of thinkg "someone is too stupid to breathe". Some soaps just get way out of hand. Years ago there was a soap that had one of there regular characters get possesed...and this was before that show Passions was on tv. Then there was one with John DeLancie carrying around a penguin....and then there was the android...I could go on and on.

You say you hate watching unrealistic stuff. Hmmm. Tell me the time when a soap opera is realistic? Soap operas are entertainment...the worst kind. If this is what upsets you, you need to turn off the tube and go relax. Why blow a gasket over something that isn't even close to being real?

Who blew a gasket? And the same could go for movies. I see totally unrealistic situations in movies all the time.

Infact we the humans really want it to be a little imaaginarty, thats why we like tv shows, films, games etc. Why one likes superman ??? simply because one thinks that how a great man superman would be "if it would be real", these double quotes contain what I want to say, but infact there is every body's standards that do count when we watch media etc

LOL! That really is strange. I'm sure that it was just meant to be entertainment and they were hoping that you wouldn't think of that angle. But you're right. Who would follow a text from a strange phone # saying that it was their husband? Wouldn't you at least text back and ask what your husband was doing on someone else's phone? *laugh* Yes, it is a bit insulting. Oh well. Soap Operas have never been or even claimed to be very true to life. I watched a couple when i was a bit younger, and it's hard for them to keep storylines going without getting pretty 'out there' since they have new episodes every single day.
