Using Coupons when Shopping

My daughter called me yesterday with news on her latest shopping venture. She used coupons for the first time in years. She saved over $20 by using coupons to purchase items that she would normally purchase. She bought a Sunday paper which usually has coupons inside. I was excited to see that she was able to save so much money. When my children were little I always used coupons. I would browse the store flyers to see which had the best sales. Making two shopping lists, I would lay out the coupons that I would use at each store and clip them to the list. It is time for me to be more frugal and start the habit of using coupons.

Being stationed in Germany, the Commisary lets us use coupons that are six months expired. I try to use as many coupons as I can. I was going to buy the stuff anyways, so I might as well use coupons. They're an easy way to save money and I don't see why people don't use them more. There is a program where people cut out coupouns and send them to troops overseas. Awesome program.

Down here in Texas we had a good thing going with Albertsons. I think they have changed it now but they would have huge triple coupon sales and double coupons on like $1.00 coupons. There were many times that I would do this while shopping the sale items and get things for nothing. Once they even had it wrong up into the negative lol. BUT its pretty hard for me to do that with a young nursing baby. That sort of shopping took lots of planning and lots of time. Also most of the items I would get that way would be stuff I normally would not buy, but since I could get it for free with the coupon we would get it. Silly things like uncrustables. I would never buy a premade PP&J, but since they were free I got them. So even with the major coupon shopping I would still have to shop for our REAL foods which rarely have coupon savings. Meat, fresh fruits and veggies....

clipping coupons - you can spend a little time and save some dollars when you clip coupons from whereever you can find them
Just be aware in your search for the that item that maybe an off brand that is just as good will still be cheaper. I have found that alot. Even with the coupon some stores will a like item for cheaper especially if it is under the store brand. Coupons are great and when they double or triple them it is an awesome thing.

I don't use a lot of coupons simply because I tend to use store brand products instead of name brand ones... I compare prices a lot, and many times I'll still be saving money on the store brand items, even if I use a coupon and it's doubled! There are some items though that I will only use store brand. Like Ketchup. I only buy Heinz Ketchup and will not use generic. So if I find a coupon for something that I do use in name brand, I definitely use it.

I LOVE topics like this! My own use of coupons seems to wax and wane, depending on my personal situation. During times when I find myself with more time than money, organizing coupons and using them is great. If you somehow have the discipline to take the amount of money saved and transfer it from checking to savings or otherwise squirrel it away, even better! But I also know there's been times when I had more money than time and haven't used coupons. Or when I've reckoned, in my egotistical mind, that my time was of much greater value - money-wise - than the amount of money I'd save by use of coupons. Since I do a bunch of my shopping (during the holidays and such) online, however, I'm constantly on the lookout for promo codes of free shipping deals. Your daughter sounds like a practical, common sense young woman (sometimes I think that's rare these days).

Clip Coupons - Clip Coupons
I usually try to use coupons. We deliver a newspaper ever morning, so on Sunday mornings I am able to go through the extra papers and clip coupons. I try to only clip those for products that we normally use. Sometimes I get some good ones, sometimes not. Either way, it is something that I try to do to help out our budget.

Did you know that there are website that you can print your own coupons from also? When I was working and was responsible for paying for groceries (my partner and I split the bills when I worked), I would often visit the websites for coupons because then I didn't have to buy the newspaper. Also, if you go to the website of your product, you will also find coupons you can print there also. :)

Today is Tuesday, or what I call Blue Hair day at Kroger and Foodland - I get a 5% discount at each store just because I am over 50! Even that little bit adds up too!~Donna

Well, last Saturday, my wife went for a meal, using vouchers that I got from doing surveys on the internet, Meal cost 85p in cash, we then went to the cinema, using coupons which I had earned from iPOINTS on the internet, although we did pay £3.50 IN CASH for ice cream, we then went to Argos and bought £17.99 worth of goods using cashback from a credit card (and they also gave me £2.01 cashback in cash for the purchase) so the total cost for the day was £2.34, real cheap day out.

Lately I use coupons as much as possible. When I was working I didn't have time to shop carefully and find coupons. Now I have more time and I have to be careful with cash. So I invested in a printer, surf the net (when I'm not on myLot ha ha) and print my own coupons. I even call my favorite grocery store to make sure their printer tat gives coupons is working before I shop. It seems to break down a lot!?! I have gotten to know what items will give you a coupon for a six pack if you have bought only one of their product.

Coupons can and do save in the pocketbook and I use them and save money most of the time, especially when the funds are low. Our money is better in our pocket than in the pockets of retailers ;) I need to have a better habit of using coupons myself.

Personally I don't think we should have to use coupons, however, I would use coupons if they made coupons for things that I actually buy. I am totally amazed that your daugher was able to made purchases and save using coupons for things she uses. That is really fantastic. I think I'll start checking out coupons and see if I can do this myself. Kudos to you and your daughter for being careful with money. And thanks for giving me a little push to do the same.

I use coupons at every opportunity that I can! It kind of bums me out that most all coupons seem to be for non-essentials, though. It would be great if somehow they could have coupons for fresh produce, etc. with as much regularity as toothpaste. Anyway, if you're not shopping at Aldi grocery store, coupons can really help out. When I shop at a regular grocery store, I usually average about $25 in savings.
