How does a person qualify for disability in the USA? What do they have to do? Thank you. I will rate the best reply.

who knows this is a very sore subject for me right now. My uncle who lost his leg do to a very complcated disease got turned down for SSI and i know someone who was diagnosised as bi-polar and got approved for SSI. My uncle physically can not workdue to him being in a wheelchair and he has 5 kids to support, but someone that can physically work and is being treated with medication gets approved for SSI. NOW COME ON!

I hear you load and clear, and it burns me up. My husband is 70, working full time. I have no medical coverage. I cannot afford my rx's and I cannot walk as to a foot problem. But, my husband is supporting all the people that don't want to work. They get free meds and doctors.

Great question, one that befuddles the mind. There are people that I know who have physical problems that do not allow them to function in situations that those without ailments can normally do. There are those that have no education, that coupled with their health problems cannot work. But, there are those who can work. That fries me. I have seen people who are on disability because of a back problem, working on cars, doing yard work and other tasks that supposedly they could no longer do. Where do we draw the line?
