More than one pet

They all look so innocent - Who Did It?

I have a dilemma. I have three dogs if I find one "accident" who did it? Do I chastise all three or do I ignore it. Then they will think that it is OK! I am damned if I do and damned if I don't.

Actually with dogs if you do not catch them "in the act" it is too late to chastise at that point. Teach your dogs to ring a bell - hang a large jingle bell from the door and teach them to hit it with paw or nose before taking them outside and they will soon learn to "ring the bell" to be let out. Always praise the positive behavior - stand outside with your dogs and when they start to go say "Good outside!!" several times and pet and praise. Soon they will be conditioned to the command and you can take them outside and say "Go outside" and they will understand what you want them to do. Unless you catch your dog in the actual act of peeing or pooping he will not understand what you are punishing him for. You have to catch him. :-) Angela

What a great idea then they could train me to jump from whatever I am doing (sleeping, my own business, etc.) when the bell rings. Thank You

Ha ha! We had ONE dog who would do that. He rang the bell and when we got up to "let him out" he ran over to his food bowl and sat down next to it. SO funny. He was a really smart dog.

yeah i think you should just scold them once and then hopefully reward them just like normal training and it should be fine,,,

I am not sure how you would go about it. I have 3 cats inside the house. One day one had gone on the floor and I didn't know who had done it so I just cleaned it up and then got some spray that is suppose to detur them from doing it again. So I am going to say you probably just clean it up and keep a close eye on them and see who has an accident again.

All I have to do is walk in and yell "WHO DID IT!". The two innocent ones scatter while the guilty one, set there and well looks guilty. So as stupid as this may sound,....have you just asked? Sorry friend, it's the best I've got.

I dare not yell as my alpha female will growl and snarl at the other whenever I raise my voice even if it is not for wrongdoing. She has appointed herself as the disciplinarian in the house.

Do you watch them to see if any of them act guilty? My cat would always act kinda guilty. It's kinda funny. Of course, I always KNEW it was her cuz the other cat was never inside, but still...
