Leasing a Jeep and getting out of it!

OK so my fiance leased a new Jeep about a year ago and it is costing us out the wazoo. I was wondering if anyone had experience with canceling a leasing contract on a Jeep. She is currently paying a month what we could use to buy her a nice used car and have an extra $100 a month to spend on other things! She says she called and they say that she has to pay the 3 years since she signed the lease...but I'm not sure that is correct. Any advice?
