So what do you think of your new STAR wattage?

do you agree, why? Do you disagree why? Do you have any room for improvement? I'm glad I'm a 9, that means ...room for improvement, and it's soooooo nice not to be perfect! So tell here.....perfect, and the imperfect need to apply..hehehehe....this is a fun post.

This new innovation of myLot. Well, I am biding my time because I am not sure what I think actually. I am a 10 at this time which means I can only fall off the top of the cliff. Also from time to time we do go away, so when that happens I can see my rating sliding way down. Is it possible to be a "0" I wonder? I shall wait with "baited breath" and see what happens mytwo_daughters but somehow I think that after a while it will really be a non-issue.

I have a rating of 10 and I think still ,I have room to improve. I agree with vivasuzi, this rating also worry me if those who dislike you can sabotage by rating our response as "-" and thus affect our earnings or maybe facing the possiblity of our account being cancel ?

well, right now, it seems to be the discussion of the evening. I too can fall, but not as far as you ossie..hmmmmm....you raise some good points....I don't know if the admins thought about it. I have give a - or two to someone with whom I disagreed, but I didn't make it a habit...I hope other people don't either. It should be interesting.

I'm also worried about not only going away and getting lower ratings, but also about people purposely giving out minuses just because they don't like you or disagree with you somewhere. I hope this doesn't cause trouble.

I find it disturbing and juvenile. Are we back in third grade? Will it be used in a way to punish those who are more liberal and frank in their discussions? Will Christians give Pagans a negative ding or vice versa? Will people that are not native English speakers end up with low scores because they are typing impaired? So far I've only seen posts about how wonderful it is, but this could have a dark side. I don't want to change my personality or my posts to please those who might be handing out brownie points. And if someone in a thread disagrees with me, I don't give them a negative. Sometimes I even give them a plus for having some moxie and standing up for their opinions. And it seems like it could turn into one big cliquish popularity contest. And while we are on the subject, I have a 9 right now. Why not a 10? Why not an 8? Some of the best writers on here have a 9. I thought they'd have a 10 for sure. Shrugs...just one more thing to worry about. And one more thing in life that tells me I'm just not good enough by some arbitrary standard I have no control over.

Auburndreams, I couldn't have said it better! You said EXACTLY what was on my mind. Now i KNOW that people have given me negative ratings because they didn't like what i have said. Before I could only wonder if they did. Because there has been very few times that I have given a response that didn't contain a lot of feeling or opinion.

well I am not here to tell you that...you are not good enough, or that this is something for you to worry about. In fact I'm sure you won't, and therefore don't. I don't agree with you, however, I will still rate you positively. You answered with the right amount of rhetoric without being boring, and to the point. I don't think this is like highschool, however, be assured, if it ever becomes that, you surely will see a post from me debating that. No, we don't know how we are judged, and should we. This was not our idea, money, or website. We volunteer our time to write, practice our syntax, and enjoy the company. For some, it is leisure, others fun, still others use it to practice writing skills. However we are judged we must leave it to those who invented it to begin with, after all they are the ones handing out the cash. They have listened to us complain, nag, backstab, complain and generally be a gigantic p.i.a. whilst they worked on perfecting the site. I think that this is such a little thing, that to complain about it is quite frivolous. However, many are entitled to their complaints and worries. Worry not, I am only giving my opinion, and am old enough not to worry about such popularity contests, or being back in highschool. Good luck to you, and have a great week!

I'm very angry. I WANT A 10!!!!!!!!! but its probably fair, i get annoyed sometimes and start slagging off people who write stupid posts, so i think that has cost me a few points. I now have a new aim in life, to reach that elusive 10 stars

People really have no right to give you a bad rating just because they don't like what you had to say. I do believe that is why mine is not perfect as well. I always give a detailed opinion or comment to discussions.

I agree with you, and I think in some instances a "-" is in order. But that should be rarely. Thanks for your opinion.

so it has given you incentive. good! It's probably good you skipped those discussions. They might have taken those pennies away...You know what they say...a penny earned!

I think we at last know why we have been doing the rating system... I am a ten at the moment but it will be interesting to see if you can decline in numbers. Perfection is so hard to uphold .LMAO...

According to the alert mylot sent out, not responding for awhile, like when you are on vacation, won't hurt your star rating. They said that the algorithm is a secret, but based on the + and - ratings. I bet that it just calculates for all your responses the number of +, -, and non-ratings you have gotten. Therefore, under my thinking, if you have responded to a lot of discussion and have a high star rating, it will be hard to knock you down. I think the star just reflects quality, not quantity. So even if you stay off mylot for months, your quality rating remains the same.

hmmmmmmm, thank you for that. I read through it quite quickly. I saw on some posts today people complaining that they lost points. I don't know how that could have been unless some gave negatives. That would be unfortunate, esp, since that was feared by most peeps on my lot. I hope this isn't a thing of the future.

I wish they would tell us more about what affects the rating. Is it the number of posts, the quality or length of posts, whether we vote or don't vote, how many discussions we start, whether we miss a day or two, spelling, punctuation, pictures submitted, number of friends, etc.????? If we don't know WHAT affects the score, how can we improve it?

I can agree to that. Well I will tell you what I do, and maybe that can help you. I give very few!, or -. I rate everyone who responds to my discussions, and I give at least a two to three sentence response. Then I do respond back, and answer my friends questions. I am thinking that is why I am a 9. go figure!

i'm not so sure with the rating...i dont even know whether i like it or not...i'm 10, but i'm so lost on how they gave out the rating...how do they judged on whether it's a good or bad discussions, i mean who have the say? but then, it's really interesting to check out the rating for each users...

For right now, I'd say we are just about the same level. As far as discussions and responding, which is why I think we discuss with each other so much. So I think they may be right on the mark. I find that those that are my friends are high up on the list, and I some things in common with, and thusly are rated high.

Dont like this system. There is no way of finding out which are good discussins and which are bad, because each of us will have our own likes and dislikes and we are all here for different reasons. But then, the payment itself is based on such a criteria, so it's just another flaw we have to do with.

I don't recall payment being rated on what kind of star power we had, but then I really didn't pay that close attn. As I see it, they are rating you on what kind of discussions you have, for others to spot you, and decide if they'd like you as a friend, and to participate in your discussions. That's how I saw it. I could be wrong. Thanks for responding.

The star system is bound to make us prejudiced in repying to posts one way or the other. I would like it if it happened one way , but maybe not if it happenend the other way :)

prejudiced? If a topic doesn't interest you, it doesn't interest you. I've looked over some of the topics of my friends. If I don't have something of value to add, then I can't answer them. I don't see how a star can prevent that from happening.
