How often do you cook?

When I was growing up my Mom cooked ever night of the week. I remember a trip to McDonalds was a real treat. Now, people are growing up on fast food instead of home cooked meals. I try to keep with the home cooked tradition but it is hard when we are surrounded by so many fast food places and life is so busy. Do you cook or eat out more?

I usually cook at home 5 out of the 7 nights a week. Sometimes we eat out because we are busy. I prefer a home cooked meal though

I'm impressed by everyone. Cooking at home still exists! Most of my friends eat out every night of the week, even if they can't afford it.

yes, cooking at home still exists. especially to thrifty people like me. my boyfriend don't call me thrifty. he just finds me reasonable. here in the philippines, most people still cook at home. families usually eat out only when they meet friends outside or on sundays or saturdays when the family is together.

i dont cook food at home since i live alone, but i enjoy inviting friends and cooking for them. i only have a small studio type room and I am alway busy with work and now here on mylot. I dont have a fridge coz i prefer to have an AC.Much as I cant just cook food for myself as it is more expensive... like it will be more cheaper for me to eat out. So i eat out.

I can see how it could be cheaper for one person to go and eat out, depending on what and where you are eating though.

We take turns in our household. I have taught all my children how to cook. We all enjoy each others dinners as we don't all cook the same. Once a month we do get takeaway as a treat.

I think giving take out or fast food to your kids as a treat is a really great lesson that will stay with them. I know that is what I learned in my family and even though I go through fast food spells, I always prefer the home cooked meals.

I cook more than we eat out. I occasionally pick up fast food if we are really going to be rushed between getting home and going somewhere, but we usually have enough time to get something at home. I don't like fast food for two reasons: 1. Cost. We can't afford to eat out a lot! I can cook a hamburger and fries for a lot less money than I can buy it at a fast food place. 2. Healthy eating. Fast food is sooo bad for you! I prefer to make my own food so that I know what is going into it. That said, I am guilty of bringing home pizza more often than any other fast food but that's because you just don't get the same taste when you make it yourself! lol!

My mom did that growing up too! Homemade meals everynight, except pizza on Saturday. But around 10 years ago she realized that was nuts and started cooking less often, but making bigger meals. So I do the same. I made tacos on Sunday night that lasted until tomorrow :) I took some for lunch one day and dinner the next. That works if you don't get sick of it (which I usually don't) and it prevents you from eating fast food.

I cook big as well. It is still homemade, just leftover. I made a meatloaf two nights ago and we have enough to last for a few meals. It gets old after a while, but it is there and it is easy.

We cook more at our home. I say 'we' because my wonderful husband does half of the cooking. We are committed to having family meals in the evening, and strive to have as many as possible around the table. Even when the children need to be shuttled to and from their activities, we give them home-cooked food either before or after (and in the case of my teenage son....BOTH before and after sometimes!Ha!) My children are well aware of the hazards of too many fast food trips in terms of their health and they actualy complain if we go there too often!

It is awesome that you have a husband who cooks. I am in the same boat. I think another benefit(besides having less work to do) is that you have more variety of meals and it is more enjoyable to eat at home. I mean, he likes to cook different meals than I do. Great way to mix things up.

when i was younger, my mom taught us how to cook already. so, after college and when i started working away from home, i can be independent and cook for myself. instead of eating in fastfood outlets, i get to stay at home and cook and save money, too. and when my boyfriend arrived to visit my family and i, he was amazed that i can really cook. so we spent quality hours in the kitchen rather than eating on fastfood chains.

Yet another good point. One of my favorite things to do with my husband is cook. We try new recipes together and it ends up being a lot more fun than just cooking alone.

I usually cook more than we go out. I really enjoy cooking and baking and my husband loves to come home to his favorite meals. Instead of wasting the money of french fries and burgers, we spend a little extra on our groceries and enjoy our meals. It's better for us health wise too.

I cook everyday. We do eat out sometimes during the weekends. Eating too much fast food is bad for all of us since it has too many calories and fat content. I love to cook...it can get a little monotonous sometimes. But cooking differnt kinds of food gives me a good break too.

My wife and I cook everyday. we don't have a car to make those easy fast food runs so that helps curb our desires for a nice grease burger. we generally cook on saturday and sunday all day so we can have food prepped for the week. for example, we'll make a lasagna, a soup of some sort, a dessert, and a stock for the next weeks soup. boo ya.

Whenever I have the time to cook, I would make it a point that my hubby and I would eat homecooked meals. Aside from the nutritional value we both get from them, it's cheaper to have them than dine out at a fastfood restaurant. I try to cook more than eat out so we could save for more important things.
