CVS coupons, friend or foe?

Ya know the coupons that CVS prints at the bottom of the receipts?? How many people do you think actually pay attention to those or even use them? ESPECIALLY the extra bucks coupons! They have this program...in their weekly ad, an item will be listed as say...5.99. Then it will read, "After extra bucks savings, you pay 3.99." So, I would think that means when I get to the register, I pay 3.99 right?? Wrong! You pay 5.99 today, come back in 2 days or so, buy something else and then one of those nifty coupons prints on your receipt for $2.00 that you can use the NEXT time you come in. What the crap is that about?!?!?! GEEZ!

that's the craziest thing i've ever heard.why do they even bother to put the coupons in there?it looks like when you purchase something the first time with a coupon you should get that coupon discount.

I used to work at a CVS in a huge college town. Most of the students could care less about the coupons, but those who really paid attention to them were able to save a lot of money. I noticed over the 3 years I worked there that they started doing more extra bucks gimmicks like the one you described. My advice is to always use your cvs card when you make a purchase because 4 times a year you will get extra bucks at the bottom of your receipt that do not require a certain minimum purchase to redeem. They are 2% of your quarterly spending, rounded to the nearest 50 cents. As to the other coupons, don't use them unless it is an item you already wanted. The $4 off a $20 purchase coupons can be useful as well, but again don't buy something you wouldn't normally. I'll be honest, most coupons expire before people use them. Even I forgot to use them ontime. Obviously the coupons are a gimmick to get information about the customers but if you read them carefully you could end up saving some money. Hope that helped.

Now you get your extra bucks coupons instantly when you make the required purchase. It may be a gimmick but it's a good gimmick because I shop there all the time and save a ton of money. I don't buy things I wouldn't be buying anyway and I also end up getting lots of stuff for free, or darn close to it. They're far from a waste of time or a "joke" as someone called them. Annie
