Do you trust babysitters?

Babysitters kinda scare me. You'll never know if they're really tending to the kids while you're away or just rotting away in front of the TV set while the kids are at each other's throats. What do you guys think?

I often go by referral. If I got one without a referral (like when I am desperate), then I take extra care. But then, again, that can be very stressful. After 3 years, I think I have learned a few lessons: 1.) kindness goes a long way BUT 2.) keep a safe "distance" - never let the relationship get too close, or you lose your hold. 3.) lay down the rules at the outset, and 4) make "ammendments" to these rules clearly and promptly as you go along. Anyway, I think you already know these. : cheers!

It depends on the sitter. When I was a babysitter, I went through training with the Red Cross. They offer courses on babysitting, First aid, and CPR. I think that the sitter should have certain qualifications and also be aware that there are web cams throughout my home. That should solve any potential problems.
