Rule of Thumb For Best Responses

Have you ever noticed when you first see a discussion and it only has 1-3 answers you think maybe you can get a best response, because you have an excellant answer? You open up the discussion to find the first response which has about one sentence received the best response? Does this turn you off from posting? Well I usually still post but it does pop my bubble a little and I lose my enthusiasm. I use the rule of thumb to wait for at least 10 post before choosing the best response. When do you decide to choose the best response?

I will rate all my discussions. I usually wait 7 days, and even with the lengthy ones I do read all the replies even if I don't always respond to every single one. Cheers!

i always wait 6 to 7 days before choosing my best answer. i try to read all responses, because they invested their valuable time into that topic. i like to read, i generally people with one word answer i rate them negatively if that the answer is not expressable in one word.

Maybe MyLot can hold off on letting you select the best response until there are at least five responses posted. We might suggest that to them and see what they think.

I usually try to wait until I have about 10 responses as well. Sometimes if a discussion "flops" and I have just 5, then I pick one. I don't get discouraged about posting in a discussion that has already chosen a best response and I doesn't matter if I think the best response "sucks". I notice that some people just choose the first one just because. It is their choice. Getting one is great but it is the author of the discussion's choice after all.

I give it at least a day, I think part of the problem is that our responders are living in so many time zones, it may be early in the morning for me, but their query could have been on there site for hours, and maybe they just felt that no one else would respond. So I allow at least a day, then I make a selection...SS

But to me even a day is not enough time. You don't always find the discussions right away. I think there should be more time if we truly want to pick the best response.

Yes that makes sense. A day is good so everyone from every zone could have a chance to post.

i always responds to topics that catch my attention or has my interest..i dont care if it already had alot of reponses or no response at all or it already choosen the best response. as long as i like the idea of the discussion i respond to it. i usually wait for one to two weeks before choosing best response, as much as possible i also reply to all the response, but if i really cant choose best then i dont but i always give ratings.

That doesn't really matter for me for as long as it catches my attention... triggered my interest it surely will force me to respond whether it be has lots of replies previously.

I don't have a set time frame thatI use before selecting a best responce. I will never give a best responce to anyone who only responds with a quick line or even 2. The responce must be meaningful to the discussion and deamed useful for all those reading the discussion.

I have waited weeks or a month or longer before selecting he best response.

I generally wait about 2 weeks. If there is still only one or two posts after that long, then I "close out" the question by choosing the best response at that point. I'm not willing to wait 6 months to see if anyone else cares to respond with a better answer.

Until now I haven't chosen the best response. I only did it once or twice. I don't know why is this important. Does it have a significat impact to your posting marks?

I usually wait about a week to pick a best response. I do have a conversation going on over a week and still appears to be getting good responses so I have not picked a best response yet. I always respond to all of the responses, sometimes this takes me several days to do but I do get it done.

Your point is well taken and considered by me. Rather than being too enthusiastic about awarding a best response, we should allow a waiting period of about 10 and above responses. My rational for giving best response is to read and re-read the response I particularly feel benefitted me.

I'm relatively new, and this is a great discussion topic, thank you - I been waiting between 5-7 days for the most part. But some of my discussions haven't taken off and have no responses or only one or two. I enjoy receiving more than a one line response and take seriously choosing best response, but what should I do wait until there are 10 responses or 7 days past. I feel bad when I have given a best response to a one-liner response and then 2 days later someone with a truly helpful response has answered -- is it ok not to give a best response until whenever? DO your discussions remain unresolved until you choose the best response? I like the idea of 10 responses but what if 6 or 7 days has passed and you haven't gotten but 1 or 2 responses what do you do then?

Oocute, I am waiting if it is 6 months for the 10 replies. Because new people are coming in here everyday and if you comment on one of those with just 1 response you can bring it to the top and others will comment on it. Yes they stay unresolved until you mark best response. Tashanieves - Thanks for the comment. Wanted to let you know you commented to oohcute and not my discussion so My Lot won't pay you anything. You need to respond to the discussion where it says respond to this discussion not where it says comment. Just thought you might want to know that. :)

It does turn me off somewhat. I would love to have more "best comments" Do they give you more money? I still go ahead and answer but my heart is not in it.

In the beginning same was the case with me.I mean, I wanted somebody choose my response as best. It was genuinely interested to be selected as best since I used to do the same for other. I used to mark the best posting as best response and my rule was to select among the first 2-3 postings. Now I have decided not to give anybody before I get 10 response.

as for me, i choose the best response depending on the content, and how useful and meaningful the response is. frankly, there are a lot of one-liner responses but has the most of meaning than the ones with most words but are useless.
