I love running...but sometimes i just dont know what to do...when its snowing outside. I live in Buffalo, New York, and its really cold or snowing most of the time. I usually play basketball as an energy release. What do you do?

I go to the gym and run on the treadmill, yes it sucks but you can still keep the same level of cardio up througout the winter season. You can also use your gym session as a good time to tone up the rest of your body. if you can bundle up enough to go out but are worried about the slipping, there are these special things you can attach to the bottom of your runners to avoid slipping, kind of like crampons wyhen you are mounteering. I'm sorry i don't know what they are called. But, i totally feel your frustration when all you want to do is go for a run but it's too cold and it gets so dark so early in the winter so it's hard to get in a run after work before it gets dark. i play field hockey outside year round and ice hockey-which is inside. I guess just try out some new indoor sports to pass the winter months. good luck

I also like ice skating outside as cross training. If there's snow on the ground, snowshoeing or cross=country skiing can also be good. I've seen those gadgets that fit onto running shoes, kind of like studs for tires. Have never tried them though.

I do not run, but use to. I also played a lot of basketball. You can always invest in a treadmill or lift weights in the winter. Staying in shape is very important and the winter time is not the time to stop. My winters now consist of being on the computer, reading, watching tv or something lazy. I may go for a walk when the weather is nice. There should be gyms near you where you run inside laps or even the YMCA.

Luckily I live three blocks from my YMCA, I go and run on the treadmill. Or for cross training I do the elliptical machine or stationary bike. I also have a rowing machine at home that I use, if I'm too unmotivated to even leave the house. ;-)

I have your same problem, even in the garage where we have a treadmill. Winter is even more important to keep in shape because your activity decreases. If you find it too cold outside, you may want to invst in purchasing a treadmill. It still may be too cold, so get a small heater for whatever room you make use of it in. In our garage, it can get as cold as it is outside! so i have to put in a heater. I also find it intensifies my workout to increase the heat =P
