Just Because You Agree With Me Doesn't Mean I'll Give You a Good Rating

Not even a day after Mylot has instituted their new ratings system and already the number of grossly simpering and sycophantic responses have risen with leaps and bounds. These are the replies which add nothing, but repeat the original poster's statement and then goes on to praise both the statement and the poster. I can't stand the people who think kissing @$$ will get them ahead. I don't care if you agree with me or not, you'll be rated on the quality of your response. Don't try and pander to my ego, it doesn't work. I may have a high opinion of myself, but I'm not an idiot. Give an actual reply. Oh dear, I'm being 'rude' again, aren't I?

I view this site as a place to come to have intelligent, meaningful discussion with a whole slew of other people. The fact that we may make a couple of bucks in the progress will not make me corrupt my beliefs or viewpoints to up my ante. This could be the one major drawback with the ratings system...too many people are going to either just post + for anyone that agrees with them and - for anyone who disagrees. Let's hope that most of us will follow your lead and rate responses accordingly.

That's essentially what I see this site as, too. I've had some wonderful debates and discussions with other members, and I don't mind getting paid for it. I do agree that there are going to be people who abuse the ratings system. I'll give plus ratings to people who disagree with me if their posts deserve it. Ah well, there's little we can do but hope.

Why the hell people are caring about their rank? It doesnt add/change anything.. To change your post style or to change your opinion just for that is really stupid :/

People care about their rating because higher ratings seem to earn more money.

I think that higher rating just showes you will get more money by their algoritm.. But it really stupid to change your opinion in order to try and improve it.. It's like lying or something...

Well, I noticed a significant jump in my earnings yesterday - 2 bucks for a little over 20 responses. Usually I only make 40 or 50 cents for that. Quite a few other members with 9 and 10 rankings noticed that as well.

Sadly, the ratings system should be rather private, you only you can see your own rating, that would stop the buttering up and begging.

Good idea! That would minimize the sucking up while still letting each member know how they are viewed by their peers. Perfect solution -- good for you!

Kinda funny, I had noticed that too... Just posted this on my profile: Hey all, I just wanted to let folks know that while I don't necessarily RESPOND to every response to my posts, I DO always read them and rate them. I rate based on the thought put into the post, not whether you agree with me or not. So if you're gonna respond to my posts, make sure you think about what you're writing before you respond. Just posting "I agree" or "yeah, you're right" won't cut it. You'll get a negative rating from me EVERY time.

That's great to put in your profile! I doubt people will pay much attention to it, sadly.

I've been posting quite a bit today and I haven't really come across replies to discussions that seem like they are just pandering for a good rating. In fact I have come across at least two nasty ones. I don't think you are rude, just frank and to the point. I've never come across a reply or discussion that you've given or started that is abusive. Personally I hope people are not replying to my own discussions in total agreement with me simply because they think that will get them a plus rating. Like you I have and will give good ratings based on the answer or comment alone even if I do not agree with it. Cheers!

I've come across quite a few. I spend as much time lurking and reading as I do replying. I just say what I think. I try not to be abusive or mean, but I am blunt. I don't like dancing around a point or sugar coating it. I wish more people were fair in their ratings.

Very well said. That was the best post i have seen today. Finally somebody says something with meaning. Why are adults posting so much yadayada. Post something that has meaning and reply with meaning not just some childish reply or posts. Grow up people this is a discussion forum not kiddy chat or doctor sues posts. lol veryone who posts important or meaningful content have a great day.

Thanks. I try and post things with meaning, for the most part. I'm here for actual discussion, and I try and promote that idea.

RAting is not about getting paid higher, altho it helps, but the quality of discussions or comments the poster had. If you rate positive, it is because the answer satisfy your topic, it has been well defended if the answer disagree. The problem with other people or even you is that you think people should agree with you to give them your positive rating.

Alright, at least you know you got a good topic discussion. It is just that your topic catch my attention and didn't even bother to read all the details.

Maybe you ought to take a look at my topic on how frustrating it is when people don't read a discussion before replying.

People don't have to agree with me to get a positive rating. I give positive ratings to plenty of people who disagree with me. As long as they make a good argument, they get a good rating. Read my post.

Who's being rude??? You being rude??? NA!! You are just being honest!! And I agree! I think that it is awesome that there is an actual "rating" next to our names, but that doesn't mean that I am going to "boost" it for you!! If I see that you have responded with something that I either do not agree with or I feel is inappropriate, things haven't changed that much to where I won't give you a big fat negative!! So I not only understand, but completely agree with you!!

I only give people the negative rating for a few things: reposting my message, posting the same message to my question as something they just posted elsewhere, and posting something completely unrelated that could not have been just because something was lost in translation. I don't decide if a post should be a negative or positive rating. Anything really good gets a positive rating, opposing side or not. And anything that is just poorly written and incomprensible won't be getting a positive rating, but on the chance that it's a language barrier, I don't give out a negative either for bad posts.

some times, if I agree if topic starter (TS), I will try to explain why I agree. Even my English is bad, I try not only copy paste TS sentences. But I not always agree with TS. I don;t care if they rate me negative. If I don't agree just said it don't agree. Is that easy thing to be honest? Umh.. give opinion which different with oher people is fine. BUt say it by polite is also nice. ^^

wew..... yes.. a litlle rude I think I also don;t like if they only copy and paste my word than reply. But some times, it nececary to do. It's fine as long as they give some explanation about it It's fine if some one doesn;t have same opinion about other. That;'s normal. But say the opinion with polite also good way "Rainbow is beautifull because it has different colour." ^^

If I agree with you or not, I don't care what rating you give dude. I rate myself and I know that I'm good without anyone or you rating me good.

Adds another meaning to the word "transparency", doesn't it? I've given negative ratings to things that were so far wide of the mark it was ridiculous. Couldn't give a damn about anything else. I've got a text thing on the website: "Save the world- Plant a sycophant". It's a disease. People seem to think that all this social EQ stuff means something.

LOL This post truly amused me. I personally don't think that you are being rude you are just stating your own personal opinion & there is absolutly nothing at all wrong with that. I don't give other users good rating just because they agree with me. If they don't agree with me & they bring up something I've never thought about before then that deserves just as much a positive rating as any.

I'm a problem for myself... because I don't like sycophants trying to manipulate the ratings system? How, exactly, does that work?

I love you!!!! And I'm not kissing a$$! I love reading your discussions and replying (sometimes). I just hope you aren't talking about me, ha ha. I love the topic you started about smokers, ha ha, you caught a lot of people NOT reading, huh? THat's hilarious! I agree with your opinion and I also hit the (-) when they do that. It really doesn't take a lot of effort to come up with your own response if they only had a brain! You think that it would take longer to retype what someone elses response than to come up with your own! Well, unless they can copy/paste. And yes, you are being rude, just kidding. I don't think your rude at all, just HONEST!

Thank you! I try and post things that people can relate to or at least think about. If they read it correctly, anyway. Don't worry, I'm not referring to you! :D No, it doesn't take much to come up with a response. But people just want their points and their rating and it bugs me. Honest is the only thing I ever try to be.

Responding in your tone - who the hell cares about these rankings :-) Jokes apart, indeed whenever there is some new mechanism is introduced people would try to make the maximum out of it. So all this sycophancy is part of the deal and game plan now. Love it, hate it but it may stay here for sometime now. So bear with it.

mylot thinks that by introducing the ranking system they will increase the quality of the responses. but sadly it has an adverse effect. don't worry about being rude.it just that u are brutally frank. many people don't like frankness.it's your life, live it your own way
