If so at what age did you first send them?

My son went to a German kindergarten when he was four. Then he went to American kindergarten when he was five. Some states are trying to make pre-school mandatory. That's going to cost a lot of money and I don't think the benefits of it will be too great.

I agree with you. I think preshool is a good thing, but I don't think it is worthy of that kind of tax payer investment when there are so many people without health insurance.

My neice, who I helped raise, went to pre-school some of the time. Depended on our work schedule and such at the time. She started when she was about three years old. Some of the schools were very good but there are so many bad ones out there. One has to really check into them and keep checking even after your child is there to make sure that they are good.

I sent my daughter when she was three. The only preschool that had any openings was a 45 minute drive from our house. We had to be there by 8am, so we had to be up by 6am every morning. After two months of this, I gave up. It was getting to be too expensive to pay for gas and tuition (about $500/month). I decided that there really wasn't anything that I couldn't teach my daughter at home. Also, she still has two more years to go before she HAS to go to school so I thought it would be better to let her enjoy those years. To work on her socialization skills, she is enrolled in a dance class with others her own age. I don't think she is missing out on anything by staying at home instead of going to preschool. At least this way I can work with her one-on-one versus her being in a classroom setting with one teacher for twenty or so others.

I started sending my kids at age 3. I wasn't sure about it, and I really missed them! But these days it seems that preschool is a part of young children's lives. In fact, I don't know of any kids in my neighborhood who didn't go to preschool!

Only my oldest went to preschool. She went when she was 4 but it was only 2 days a week for a total of 3 hours for the entire week (1 1/2 hours each day). She loved it, but then we moved. So my middle two children didn't go because we couldn't afford private preschool here. They are 5 and 4 and have never been to school. We are moving back to where we used to live this summer so next school year the 4 year old will go to the same school her sister went to. The other two will be homeschooled for 2nd and Kindergarten.

I started taking my daughter to a nursery in Malaysia when she was 3 going to 4. She then continued in pre-school when I am here in the UK. I am glad I did so because she seemed more at ease and adapt quite well here in the UK and the idea of going to school which is mandatory here is not too much of a shock to her. In fact, she enjoys going to school. The most important thing abt going to pre-school/nursery/kindergarten/reception is they get to mix around with other children and learn to communicate and play and interact with other children. That was why I feel it is necessary to take them to school at an early age. My doctor suggested that as long as they are toilet-trained, they are ready to go to school... and I pretty much agree to his view.

Yes mine went. My oldest was 3 and my youngest was under 1. However, I also worked at that pre-school they attended. Both girls went there until time for them to have entered reg. elementary. I though it was a wonderful experience for them and they both seemed to have loved it. I do believe it gave them an advantage over the children that did not attend a pre-school.

My youngest daughter did go to preschool and we sent her at an early age as she wanted to be like her big sister and go to school. She actually started at the age of 3 and she loved it! The teacher first thought that she was too young, but decided to give it a try and was surprised that she done as well as she did. I wish now I would have waited for her to go at a later time because she has been in school several years and she is 10. However, I am thankful for the extra time that she had in school too.
