Can you give me a home remedy for diaper rash?

Ive tried everthing on the market - from Desitan to zinc oxide cream! My cousin's baby is so loaded with the rash - we've switched formula, from disposable diapers to cloth ones washed in baby non-allergetic detergent. Help!

Hi Bee... nothing worse than a baby with a rash! They are so miserable with it :( I was never able to use the "brand name" diaper creams with my kids... Desitan, Zincofax, none of them. They all seemed to make things worse. My mom told me to use Ihle's Paste. It's what she used on us as babies and she swore by it. I tried it and never looked back. It's similar to the zinc oxide creams, I think, but it worked much better. It goes on thick and really keeps the moisture of the diapers from their already raw skin. (For that reason, it's also hard to get off your hands... but comes off nicely with a baby wipe.) I used to buy just the store brand at the pharmacy. It looked so plain there next to all the fancy creams and lotions but it came in a big tub that lasted for so long and it was much cheaper too. Believe it or not, my girls are 16 and 13 and I still have Ihle's Paste in the house. I still give it to them to use if they happen to have an irritation, from chafing or perhaps too strong of a bath product, etc. They use some overnight and feel much better the next day. Good luck with the baby! I hope the little one gets cleared up real soon! :)

yup, its the best thing that ever was invented for diaper rash, and unlike others, it doesn'tsting.(don't ask how I know they sting) However, if a diaper rash just won't go away, it may be thrush, a type of yeast infection that many babiesget, Take the baby to the doctor if it just won't go away

Years ago my daughter had a really bad rash it was almost bleeding, the doctor told me to get something for foot fungus since diaper rash is a fungus it really worked, it's not a home remedy but it wont cost much for a small tube and leave the diaper off for as long as possible.

Thats what the zinc oxide is used for, but perhaps I should get a better known brand. Thanks!

Cornstarch browned in a cast iron skillet as used in a shaker. Bag Balm, also used on cow utters, is very good. Acid Mantle cream, sold in Safeway pharmacies and other pharmacies. I used it on my babies and they are now 25 and 26. In a pinch, and it works great, vegetable shortening provides a very good barrier. I used to use it on my HIV patients and they were very thankful. And of course, exposing the clean skin to air whenever possible. Good luck! Happy New Year!

To get rid of diaper rash, gently wash the bottom with plain water and then blow dry the bottom with a hair dryer set on LOW every single time the diaper is changed. This usually clears it in a day or two - even the really bad rash that bleeds. This ALWAYS worked for my 10 cousin kids Just make SURE that you don't get too close with the hair dryer! Keep it on LOW and constantly moving and just long enough to dry the skin, which should only take about 30 seconds.or u can put a tablespoon of white vinegar into about 2 cups of warm water. Dip a rag into the water, squeeze it out, and dab it onto the diaper area do this after each diaper change. The only warning is if the diaper rash is bleeding or there is sores DO NOT use it will burn the child.

cornstarch - cornstarch can help elimnate diaper rash
Whenever my toddler have diaper rash which is not very often, I rinse him with water then use Cetaphil cleanser as soap before I apply the diaper cream. Putting cornstarch after the cream helps too.

Ok, first of all, after you change your baby, wheter they have urinated, or pooped, wipe them off, actually use mild soap and water if possible, or atleast a couple of times a day, and then you can use, neosporin, or the knock off brands of this and put it all over the rash...a cornstarch based baby powder should be applied next, and then let the air get to the rash if possible for as long as you can then replace the diaper....do this for a day after each diaper change.....I have also used Eucerin cream as well, it's for very chafed skin, and has worked. My girls get diaper rashes all the time....they drink too much juice, and eat too many veggies, but its good for them....they just pay with a rash from all the acidity.....If you have local dr., try calling and asking one of the nurses what the name of the rash medicine is they prescribe (or you could call the pharmacy is)....I know it starts with an "N", and it used to be prescribed to my daughters for their rashes and it worked....it's a form of antifungal cream....your children may have a yeast infection....which then would need a different type of anti-fungal cream.........I suggest my top ideas, and calling your dr or pharmacy, or a nurse hotline....you can cure diaper rash at home easily enough....without having to pay for a dr. visit. Try giving them more water, if possible, instead of any juices or things that would be acidic.....atleast for a day....Have you used pink salve? My mom used to swear by it....rashes just depende on what is causing them as to what you can use to cure them......GOOD LUCK

Lanolin has worked very well for us. Plain water to clean the baby, then lanolin as a barrier.

Make sure you're not using scented diapers! and when you change the diaper, don't use babywhipes.. It's actually a lot better for the baby if you give him/her a small bath instead of whiping them. If it's a yeast rash/infection, you can try using plain yogurt. I'm not so sure how else to help, because I'm basing off what my sister's used to help with her child's rash when he gets one.. I hope someone else helps. I'm pretty sure all my sister really uses when her baby has a rash is vaseline or something for yeast, (something weak). Good luck.

There are a couple of things you can try that might help. The first is to let the child spend a portion of the day without a diaper on. This way the skin can be aired and that might slow whatever reactions she is having. The second is to apply plain old mineral oil to the areas that have the rash. So this just after the nightly bath and then her skin should remain protected over night. There are some essential oils that can help, but using essential oils on chilcred is not wise. There meatbolisms are so sensitive that you can risk a life threatening event.

I used to work in child care and we would see lots of kids with nappy rash. what we found the best solution was, was to keep the babies nappy off as much as possible so that the air could get to it. One of the big problems with nappy rash is that the nappy is kept on too long when its wet, and, that warm moist environment plays havoc. I did the same for my own children, but i also found a great product here called bepanthen, it works really well, and it can be used for lots of different things.

You could try Ammen's powder for the diaper rash. Its normally used as a foot powder. But I've used it on both of my daughters and I've found that it keeps them dry and helps clear up a rash if they have one. I've also used it with Desitin and that clears it up faster. Also, if the rash was really bad I've put a shower curtain on the ground and let my daughters play on it diaper free. Good luck!!
