I love it, I never thought I would but a few years ago I got a job at a cake decorating candy making store and I learned so much while working there. Now I bake the coolest cakes for birthdays and for any occassion I make candy. I'm thinking about starting a small bussiness selling my stuff.

I've never made candy but it sounds like it would be fun. If sombody was willing to teach me then would be happy to learn how.

you guys sound like you got it. It's so simple, and for the suckers you can paint the colored chocolate on with a small paintbrush let it set and then pour in the rest of the chocolate in. And never wash your molds with soap only hot water, the soap will make your molds sticky.

If you use the bark, then all you have to do is melt it and pour it into molds. You can make a candy arrangement by making the molded candies with sticks inserted in them, then arrange them in something like a coffee mug. Makes a great gift and the bark comes in many flavors/colors.

My Mom and I made about 100 lbs of candy as gifts this past Christmas. We love doing it together. We use alot of the Bark to make candy and we make the greatest fudge using the Cream Drops candy and peanut butter.

I saw a nice little gift idea in a magazine... Peppermint Bark... for Christmas. All it takes is white chocolate and crushed up candy canes. I meant to make that! LOL I didn't even remember it until you posted "bark"... Thanks for the reminder :)

lol you are so welcome. If you like peppermint then try making a white cake and using white icing mix in crushed peppermint. I use to make this cake for my grandfather when he was still living. Just be careful because it's really rich so only cut small pieces.

I too am considering making cookies and candies as a business. I love creating nummy things and sharing with others. Having collected quite a variety of recipes and tried them out on my family and friends, I know which ones are a hit. Good luck to you.

cupoftea, you should absolutely do that! I know a few people who have had a cake business as a sort of "side job" and they have been incredibly successful. The secret for them was to find a good, moist cake recipe. I find the biggest criticism people have with cakes from bakery counters is that the cake itself is too dry or the icing is too sugary. The lady who made my wedding cake was working from her home... and the cake was fabulous. I also had an online friend years ago who made cakes to order. She made anything that was requested... one day she met up with a group of us online to discuss how on earth to make an accurate ... ummmm... "adult male themed cake" for a bridal shower LOL! She had such fun with her business.
To answer your subject line question, yes I do love making candy. I don't always have enough time for baking lately but I really love it too. I even bake with my crockpot... it makes the most delicious "steamed" sort of cakes. It was worth every penny that I paid for the cake insert!
Can you share what kinds of things you make? I'd be interested to hear your ideas.... and good luck with the prospect of the business! :)

I also can make filled chocolate candys.

Awww don't be scared! Sure it would be a challenge but the great thing about building a cake business is that there are plenty of people who would be willing to be your taste testers :) You could experiment with some different ones and get people's opinions. Once you have the recipes that work for you, it's just a question of the types of decorating you can offer. I'd love to take a cake decorating class but I'm also one of those people that likes to just try things on my own.
I know the colored chocolate you're describing! Last Easter, there was a display in a store near my house and the lady had poured teddy bears, small animals, really nice things. I think the suckers sound great. Do you already sell those? I'm sure you could have a side business just doing personalized favors with them :) Or I bet they'd work great for fundraisers -- like for a sports team or a service club... if you had a mold of their logo?
