How can one get out of the stupid sleep cycle?

Since new year my friend is been able to get to sleep til about 4 in the morning no matter how much milk he drinks or how long he lays on bed then he find it really hard to get up before midday - he cant seem to break the cycle. He's a student so he's not missing work, but he hate sleeping in so late. help!
