Bra And Breast Cancer; An Amazing Relationship
Despite the amazing inventions in medical technology, there are still a couple of disease conditions that have maintained an increasing prevalence. Breast cancer is obviously one such condition. Generally, cancer, in whatever form, constitutes a trouble zone for the medical profession and breast cancer, a disease that claims more female lives annually than any other condition, is definitely a trouble zone. More than two hundred thousand cases of breast cancer are diagnosed annually in the United States alone. It is estimated that at least one in nine females will get breast cancer at one point in life, irrespective of age.

Though the medical world has been able to tell us some factors that predisposes or increases the risk of suffering a breast cancer, most of the causes are still unknown. Hundreds of thousands of women today have breast cancer despite their lack of most of the established breast cancer risk factors. In the quest for an explanation for the alarming breast cancer prevalence, several factors have been shown to play crucial roles in the cause of breast cancer; one of such amazing revelation is that the length of time you wear a bra and perhaps the type, may increase or at least contribute to your risk of suffering breast cancer later in life.
A couple of research studies reported in several medical journals have established a reliable link between the culture of bra wearing in any community and the prevalence of breast cancer.
One such study reported that by wearing bra for about 12hours a day, the risk of suffering not only breast cancer but other diseases related to the breast, such as cystic breasts or tight-bra syndrome, breast pain, breast tenderness was considerably increased in the research subjects. Interestingly, if this information is anything to go by, it means that by wearing bra for about 18 hours daily, you are more than 50 times more likely to suffer breast cancer compared to someone that goes 'braless' and about three times more at risk compared to smoking cigarettes.
You are probably asking the pertinent question by now; why is it so? Scientists explain that the lymphatic system helps clean the body tissues of dangerous toxins; they remove these dangerous chemicals from the body tissues and deposit them in the blood for onward excretion. Unfortunately, the strap and edges of your bra cut across the lines of the lymph vessels, thus constricting, compressing or blocking the lymphatic drainage of the chest area. If this happens for too long, it leads to a build-up of toxic substances in this area, the cells get toxic and thus prone to cancerous reactions.
Obviously, it is unreasonable to expect that everyone will stop wearing a bra after reading this article; however, it is important that you wear a bra only when it is important and ensure that you don't wear tight bras. Wear bras with no underwires and wear larger sized bras during your menstrual periods, as the breast tissue retains water and gets larger during menstruation. There are several unknown causes of breast cancer, it is only reasonable that you try as much as possible to reduce the known risk factors, this way you will be effectively reducing your chances of suffering breast cancer.
