Spyware

My son plays these online kid games and some of these games I believe have spyware on it. I've blocked anything that has to do with adult content so I know it's not that or a possiblity. I also check his last sites visited and cookies sometimes. However, somehow I still see spyware on his pc. What causes spyware and what are the best programs to use to remove it?

I tend to get spyware on my comp also, but that is because of the fact that I have a wireless internet connection, and so when I leave my computer on (because technically, when it is hibernating, it is on), I sometimes find that someone has gotten onto my computer through my connection. And, it can happen through games, because that is how my hubby got tons of spyware on his computer. I am still trying to get it off. When my computer went haywire, because of the adware and spyware, I called a friend of mine over, who is a total comp whiz, and he spent almost 4 hours trying to get most of it off. Unfortunately, he is on vacay right now, so me and my hubby are trying to manage without him. The best thing I recommend is MacAfee, because it really works. My bro lost his cd, so I am going to probably have to get it for my husband's comp, if our friend doesn't come back soon. Also, I suggest trying Norton, which is the usual program we all get. What you can also do, is go to the MacAfee website, and do a free scan just to see what is on the comp, and what it does. For example, some are more harmful than others, and they can do more than just get your password, they will get all sorts of personal (specifically financial) information, if it is on there, like bank accts and such. Good luck.

Good advice sum1234, I have Spybot S&D and also run Spyware Blaster, I find that setting the privacy higher than medium stops almost everything, lol.. I also run avg free which is a great anti virus program, and all these are free!

My son also plays online games and also sites that allow you to download music. I know they have spyware/adware and have had a heck of a time trying to get them off his computer. He doesn't visit Limewire anymore because of this but the online games are harder to take care of because he has the software and then uses it to get online - he really enjoys it so I do not want to tell him to stop playing them online after we paid all this money so he could but the spyware/adware is getting very bothersome. I'm not sure how to avoid this just yet but I will figure out a way one of these days. Good luck to you!
