This OS is located on http://www.ubuntu.com/ I am thinking of using this OS I do a lot of web design among other things and I am very happy with Windows XP but I'm intrigued with the Idea of freeware I won't be forced to upgrade every time I turn around. What are the plus and minus to this OS.

I understand how you feel I have been training the past 4yrs. with windows XP but I hate to keep being at the mercy of Microsoft they can just stop supporting their product and there goes another wallet full of money.

There are a lot of Linux distributions available, and a large number of them will alow you to download a disk image to burn to a CD or DVD. Linux is very user friendly these days and you usually have the option of which GUI to use, personally I use KDE for my desktop. The major downside is that major software vendors tend to produce Windows based programs. However, the plus side is that you can download all the software that you wish and it will all be free.

I have been using SimplyMepis Linux for a while now and I highly recommend it. http://www.linuxboards.org/showthread.php?t=2400 It is based on Ubuntu but uses KDE desktop. Compatible with Ubuntu and Dedian packages. NICE!
