I wouldn't go as far as saying teenagers need mobiles, but I do think it's nice for them to have them. This hasn't always been my opinion. When my fourteen year old asked for one, my first thought was no way, what do you need that for. But then with all the times he's away from home and plans get changed either on his end or mine, I thought maybe it would be nice for him to have one, cause it would be easier for us to get in touch with one another when we need to. So, I bought him one, and it's been nice, makes things alot less complicated. As far as changing mobiles frequently, I would say that that's a lot more of a want than a need. Teenagers like to have the latest, greatest of everything, and since mobiles are constantly upgrading, teenagers are constantly changing. Do they need to do this? No, probably not, but they like to!

i think we should teached teenagers the mobile is to keeping touch each other when "needed" not for chat and it is not a fashion as when you use mobile to talk need money! just like teach them how to use money!

If they have the money (rather than funded by the parent) I don't see the problem in them switching mobiles (apart from the obvious danger of having the most expensive item in their pocket!). Soon enough they'll realise how they're essentially wasting money when they have little to spend on other things.

It’s beneficial to the parents of the teenagers to be always able to contact them, though I don’t agree with the fashion icon they’ve become. Having the most expensive flashiest mobile possible is only going to encourage danger rather than decrease the danger.

maybe when the teenager ask have the moblies for his own it is time for the parent to teach him the idea of use money correctly........

It is! I think I mentioned that in a comment to someone who posted on this topic. It's a perfect opportunity, if the teenager him or herself is paying for it, they'll eventualy learn to be more wise with money due to have little to spend on anything else!

I think it is required. If it is not make available to them, they would make the calls from home or elsewhere. It has become fashionable to keep talking in mobile most of the time.

They don't need. I'm glad to respond this question. I think it is better to discuss these like useful titles compared to many other useless titles. We should encourage these like members to start more discussion like these like mind buster titles. Thanks to mylot for offering such opportunity to share our views. I like more members to respond to these kind of question.

haha. back in those days when we were young, none of these matters, right? what we know is just study and study and get thru peer pressure. but i guess mobile phones have been one of the peer pressures too :P. only yesterday, my niece asked for one mobile phone from her mom. her mom sarcastically said, if you're going to just talk on the phone with your friends, asking stuff like, hey, have you finished your homework etc, then you better get them yourself. earn money, then buy. on how to let teenagers use them wisely.. i shall say, it may depend on the parents. parents have choices maybe to confiscate the phone at certain hours etc. unless parents are confident that their teenagers are good enough to handle these themselves.

I dont think teenagers need cell phones. Because rather than utilising them, they are misusing them. And especially if they have features like a camera, there is a further misuse. I think teenager sneednt be provided with any cellphones.

As a teenager,i think it's neccessary to have a mobilephone. But it's not need to change it frequently. In my opinion, i use mobilephone to keep in touch with my friends and receive news rapidly.
