Rock music is bad. What do you think about this?

I've heard many elder people say they don't like rock music because it is hurtful to the ears. Furthermore, rock music singers influences the way teenagers wear clothes. Some of them are said to influence the attitude of teenagers. They become aggresive and abusive. They protest their parents and argue excessively just to protect their interest in rock music. To me, I don't have a strong standing againts rock music. To me, it is just a genre of song and it depends on the person to value a music they choose. What about you? What do you think about rock music?

There are thousands of types of music world over and every type of music has its own follower. In 1970's I was fond of BoneyM, ABBA etc. In 1960's, it was Beetles that was famous. Whether Pop or Rock or country music, Indian classic music, instrumental, popularity depends on the number of followers it gets and for rock too there are millions of followers. Ultimately it depends the taste one develops and there is nothing wrong for coexistence of all sorts of music, because tastes differ.

Loud and raucous is a nuisance but we have to accept that there are people who love such music. I like soft music.

Yeah, I accept it. I'm okay with it, only that sometimes I wonder they do have sound resistant in their ears. :) Just a thought, though...

You're right pal. My husband is still a fan of BoneyM. Until now he sings it like it was just released yesterday. He's much older than me. I BoneyM too and my mother has a record that she keeps at home. Now I longer put any major interest on any type of music. I think I like the top 40's no matter what type of songs they are. Personally, loud rock is not for me. Slow rock, yes.

I'm going back a couple of years back to when Britney Spears first came out and she was still the wholesome teenage singer. My niece would listen to her music then. The neighbor children were not allowed over to play with her because she listened to "devil music". That floored me. I didn't think anyone felt that way about music. There are some genres of music I do not care for, I'm honest about that but each person has the right to choose their own. When I was growing up people complained about rock and roll and how it would warp the kids. It didn't. They were just looking for something to blame besides the kids themselves.

Actually I am more to a sentimental and slow beat music fan. Slow rock is one of my favorites though. I never think that music is the cause of problems among teenagers. It is us, the people who started problems for ourselves. If we are wise enough, we'll know what's the best for us.

I love rock music and do not feel it is bad for people. Sure there are some groups that put some awful lyrics into their music but most of the rock groups that I have listened to over the years are good. It is only bad for your ears if someone is playing it too loudly and that goes for all types of music, not just rock music. I think rock music is actually better than some of the rap music that is out now.

That's the point I am trying to explain. Rock music is synonym with loud. It is weird if a rock music is heard with low volume, it just don't tally. That's why hard rock is not for me. I am sorry but I think maybe hard rock is not suitable, not yet maybe.

Rock is bad ???...hey how can some one say like that...its not hurtful to ears ..to me its everything what music stands for....if you think its bad and it hurts then it will hurt ..but if you take it in the right spirit and start listening it then I am sure your opinion will change.

Naw... naw... I do think it is hurtful to the ears. What I mean is the ones that are too aggressive (the hard rocks). For slower rock beats, I like them and no offense on that. But hey, you have your point out and this is a good discussion.

Hi Ladysurvivor, I cannot see how you can blame music for someone's attitude. Men have always tried to find the reason as to why teenagers act weird and can sometimes be aggressive. They have blamed it on Tv shows, rock music, etc.. There was a time when Elvis' music was said to have a negative influence over teenagers lol:) Teenagers act weird because they struggle to come to term with the change that takes place in their body and their minds. This has nothing to do with music or anything else:)

If a teenager is put in a forest he will survive and live according to what influences him around himself. So I have to say that rock music has a big influence to teenagers. Teenagers are easily influenced by anything around them, so the fault is indirectly have to be put to the things that influence them around themselves.

I am not a big fan of rock music, but if others like it, that's OK. Everyone has the right to like what they like. I don't like being interrupted by loud rock music rom my neighbours, and I try not to play my music too loud for them.

Well I don't think you can necessarily heap all rock music together like that. There's plenty of rock music that has a positive message.

Sure... to me rock music itself is good. But when it is misused, then the negative things will happen.

I think so, in some occurences. For instance in my country I love the slow rock music sung by Amy Search called "Isabella". This song is a phenomenon, not only the young like it, old people also hum this song.

I like rock music, its my favorite genre of music. i think htat every type of music can influence young people, thats just how it goes. i think i would rather my children to be influenced by rock stars than paris hilton, and 50 cent! i think its all a matter of what your comfortable with.

Music is ever-evolving. You can't stop it. Rock is a form of music that is powerful, that's why it is loud. Some folks doesn't understand this. They say that their music way back then was better, i agree, but like i said, music is ever-evolving, we face a different kind of music every 5 or ten years and we can't do anything about it.

When i was a teenager, i like rock music!!!! I was not just like, i've ever been a lead guitarist of my band (but not be an artist yet :D). But now , for me it's all a memory, and i don;t like rock music anymore, and regret for liking it. In my religion, music is not guilty, as long as the lyric is good, the presentation is not over, and the most important thing, the song's lyric content of praise and remembrance of Allah. As we realise or not, music can influence our attitude, manner, habit and so on. So good music may influence good to us and vise versa. :-)

Hi Ladysurvivor: I am a senior citizen, and I still love rock and roll. It is so much better than a lot of music they play today. The Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart are still among my favorites.

Bah, I think it's bulls**t! Almost all teenagers get a little "revolted", and it doesn't depend on the music they listen to. Rock is great, and it actually unloads my tension. I love it, it's definitely my favorite musice genre, and I guess I'm a nice girl anyway. :) Some people blame rock artists for crimes committed by their fans, like that classic case of Charles Manson, a serial killer who used to inspire his crimes in Beatles' songs, or even those guys who shot people at school because of Marilyn Manson, a few years ago in the United States. There are lots of cases like that, but I believe these people are totally crazy and would do it anyway, with influences of music or not. Cheers, my friend!

I personally dont have much interest in rock music. I believe that music is a means of relaxation and it should be soothening to ears and mind, it should go along for more time even after hearing, on the contrary the view of older people is also true, the way the rock music people dress and jump on the stage is not a decent act, in the name of involving into music what they really show is nonsense, there are theories and facts on how music acts as therapy to many illness, in that case it should definitely be soothening and not ear alarming. Music should be as pleasant as it is. Taste differs a fast numbers and slow numbers but not as rock music.
