Do you allow your toddler to drink soda?

I swear, everytime I go to the grocery store or somewhere else where's there's alot of mom's with kids, I always see one mom who is giving her toddler soda or has put soda in her baby's bottle. This annoys the hell out of me! What is wrong with these mothers? Are they trying to rot their kids teeth out and make them overweight? What's wrong with milk or water? Why in the world would anyone give a baby pop?

I never let my kids have pop. My daughter is almos 5 and my son is 2. They don't need it. We actually rarely even have it in the house. For awhile my daughter wouldn't even drink fruit punch out of a can because she thought it was pop and she "didn't like pop". She asked for milk instead.

Giving a sip out of mom or dad's glass every once in a while or in a blue moon is no big deal. I'm talking about the parents that pour it into their childs bottle or sippy cup and give it to them whenever they want....it's just wrong.

My kids are 4 and 2. And they have tired soda, but they have never had a full glass of it. They will try a drink every now and then. But I can gladly say that right now the 4 year old does not like soda, he would much rather have milk, juice, or water. Now the 2 year old, she is a little different. She says that she likes the taste... but, she still will not get it. I think at children should not drink soda, there is too much sugar in soda and kids deffinatly do not need to have that. Children are growing and they need to take in good calories not ones that are full of sugar and the like. With all the crap that there is for food today I think it is important to teach kids what are good for them, and by trying to limit their amount of soda I think that is setting a good example.

I don't have kids but when I do they won't get soda. I have seen Mom's doing the same thing...soda in a bottle. Crazy. Juice, milk, and water. There is nothing in soda that a baby needs. I think it is a good way to start bad habits early.

To me, it's like the mom's just don't care about the baby's health. The mom's that give their baby's soda probably smoke cigs around them too!

I think it's unfair to say that that mother didn't have any maternal instict whatsoever just because she gave some soda to her kid. Maybe she was too young to be a mother and didn't have the ample time to develop any parenting skills or maybe the mother wasn't fully aware of the health risks of soda. In that case it is "our" responsibility to disseminate any relevant and useful information to others. Maybe free parenting books to both teenagers and adults will do the trick.

I don't think it's unfair at all for me to speak my mind and give my opinion on this issue. How could a woman who is old enough to give birth in the United States not know that soda is not good for her baby/toddler? Has this mother never turned on a television or a radio, read a magazine or even taken this child to the doctor? I'm sure the baby's pediatrician would advise against it also. Being too young and not having the skills to be a parent is no excuse, it's common sense when it comes to stuff like this.

I never gave my daughter soda when she was a toddler and now if we go out to eat she asks for milk. There have been a few times I have had a pop and offered her some and she says no thank you she doesn't like it.

actually i wllow my toddler to drink plain soda and nothin less or nothin more but sodas like pepsi adn coke they harm childrens bones they deplete them of calcium nd leads to osteoporosis etc which leads to frequent fractures...also they leads to skin rashes kidney failure liek that and other serious illness these are the health implicationsbut when it comes to other implications like loweringof water table and all i am concerned and i dont want to promote these drinks so i dont prefer soda for my toddlers or anyone else

I am surprised whenever I go to the park or other places and see the amount of young children drinking soda. I have two children who do not drink soda. My daughter is seven and might drink a soda 4-6 times a year. My son is four and has never had a soda. My kids drink a lot of milk and water. It is our job to be a parent and raise our children in a healthy way.

I NEVER put it in a bottle or a sippy cup for my kids. If we are at a resturant than I will let htme have soda if they choose. So that is maybe 1-2 times a year. I do know that my mother-in-law will occassionally let them have soda. In my house it is either milk or water, sometimes 100% juice.

Mine doesn't drink soda except maybe rootbeer that doesn't make them hyper. That's only on special occasions maybe once in a blue moon. They usually drink milk, juice or water. The first time my youngest even had a sip of soda was around 16 mnths old, when my husband let her take a sip from his water down soda. My oldest didn't have soda or even a taste of it til she was close to the age of 2. That's because she grabbed my soda can and took a sip. If a child goes to bed with a bottle or cup, with milk in it. They can get baby bottle rot.

You are so right it is best not to teach them to drink as they sleep. It is best not to introduce soda or sugary items they will get them soon enough and perhaps they wont get addicted to them

Other then giving a few sips now and then to my little sister when she was a baby we didn't put soda in her bottle or sippy cup. She loves juices and if she gets pop nowdays it is a clear pop like 7up or sprite in small amounts. I know pop is pop and it is bad for her but it is hard to be drinking it and her wanting it too. But she drinks more water then anything.

well i have to say on this one that I am sometimes guilty on this one. i guess todays moms are stressful and you probably can rest for sure she was trying to give the child of little of soda just to quiet her down until she leaves the grocery store. Now as for the sugar hype when the child leaves the store that is a different story. But what you are saying is correct it is not healthy but what do you expect mom was drinking it also.

I think SODA should not be given to Toddlers as a routine as it may affect their stomach at a later stage.
