a surprise in my mailbox this morning

people don't usually send letters and cards through the regular postal system anymore. my boyfriend and i usually exchange handwritten mails every now and then and we love the feeling of receiving such effortly done letters. so, when i opened my mailbox this morning, instead of just bills, my friend and her husband who live now in the US (i;m from the philippines) sent me a Christmas card and photos of their babies. the card might arrive late but it's the thought that counts. i felt really great upon receiving the card. it's such a turnaround from the usual hellos on emails. how about you? do you feel happier when receiving handwritten mails or there's no difference for you between real mails and emails?

Ahhh, that was sweet! You're right, it's been a while since I last received handwritten mails. Since the advent of cellphones and emails, I don't get to receive such pleasures from friends anymore. I would try doing that to some of my friends and relatives this coming February and see how they respond to it.

As i was going to sleep last nite after i open this site, i was thinking of opening this discussion, its good you opened it up. Well its been such a long time since i received a letter or cards, it was sent by my friend from USA also, but since the cellphone was already here i was not able to reply to him. Maybe we can tell to our friends evennot in abroad that we should try to communicate by regular mail through the post office. I have a friend who is a postman and he said that since the cellphone was invented the bulk of letters he delivered diminished. I hope i can start coomunicating by means of regular mail.I know how happy you are reading letters from your boyfriend.

yes. there's so much difference when it comes to emotions when reading my boyfriend's emails and regular mails. it's really amazing and surprising that some people still believe in magic of writing letters and making other's feelings better. and for you, i hope you get the time to start sending some of your friends some mails. it will surely brighten their day.

Hello maryannemax....... I am one who still uses the regular mail for most of my correspondence. As a stamp and postal history collector I am saddened by the loss of postage not being used. In the not so distant future, mail and stamps from this time period will be very difficult items to find, which will increase their value. Already, many newer postal items are nearly impossible to find in good condition. Tom

You may not believe this ma'm but myself and my cousin sister still write letters to each other, and that too quite often. Its a habit nurtured by both my mom and my aunt from our very childhood days. Haven't been able to give up on that even at the age of 21...

I love receiving a handwritten letter. Even if you have trouble reading the words, you know that it came from the heart. WE are living in a technological world with everything needing to be done faster and faster. Stop, take a moment, write a letter. It is relaxing and you really can pour your heart out when composing one. So what that you made a mistake in spelling and had to cross it out. Humans make mistakes. Nice discussion. : )

yep. it's rare in this world anymore when people spend time alone and write down letters to friends and relatives. so, it's so surprising whenever we receive personal mails from people we know. we know that they put effort on writing them and sending them to you. just puts a smile on my face and makes my face brighter. and thanks to you, too!

My brother lives in UK. SOmetimes he sends a postcard, or some small gifts in an envelope. Yes, it is good feeling. But I do not like to read his letters because his handwriting is sooo ugly :D So, I think I like to get a package, not letters by mail.

oh. well, could be. my boyfriend sends me packages, too. but even if he's penmanship isn't that great, i still love to read his mails over and over again. he wrote if for me and spent time for doing it. so, i really appreciate it so much.

That was sweet. Me and my girlfriend are also exchanging handwritten mails every now and then. She is in Manila and I'm from Davao not really that far but it feels good everytime I receive her letters. Its not really the letters that you're going to get inside the mailbox since it usually comes with stuffs so we have to use LBC and the likes. The experience is always nice since my girlfriend is so creative so usually she's writing the letters in different ways. I am not that creative but she said my writing alone looks one coz its a bad handwriting. -_-
