yes it is very very important. most websites have introduced this system to prevent automated scripts from being used to create accounts on their sites. this ensures that the person entering the information in the forms in a human and not a computer generated script.

There are some Automated programs that create spam IDs, These autimated program can read only text but not Image so when you entered this word, it ensures that you are the real person not any automated program. So this technique is just to avoid the Automated program to get into the website and read information.

This is actually a security feature built into many web sites. And here's why. People have written and created programs which will constantly log into a particular site and create large quantities of names, what they are actually doing is spamming the site. Or overloading the site so bad, that none of the real users can get in there. Also, they can try to steal someone elses name and password using this same program. But if you have to enter a code in every time, those people soon get tired of this, and give up. Why do people do that? For fun.. Yeah, I know, people have different ideas of what fun is... So when you get to a site.. Including yahoo, where it asks you to retype the numbers/letters you see, it is actually protecting you and your account, as well as trying to keep the site you're on running smoothly.

These turing/authentication numbers are meant to stop people from using auto bots to create accounts or to access accounts. It is just a security feature to protect the company and the clients. Nothing to worry about just a little burrden for a little added security. An auto bot has a difficulty with these numbers/letters since they change all of the time. I hope this has helped, have a great day!!

Yes, yes. They use that so they can tell that we are actual humans signing up for the program and not cheat bots. It's a tedious way of doing things, but it works and is very effective.
