I'm pretty strict with my 16 year old about how much time he spends per day on the computer. He is allowed one hour to socialize only. If he has homework that he needs the computer for I don't count that as computer time. I didn't have a time limit for him when we first went online. After a while it seemed like he was living life on the computer instead of going out with his friends and talking to people in person. We don't have that problem anymore. :) I think it is up to the parent of the child to decide how much time is right for their own child. What's right for one child isn't right for all children. If you think your son is addicted to being online maybe you could try to ween him down to the time limit that you set for him. He may put up a fight at first but after a while he will accept that what you are doing is in his best interest. :)

My son loved the pc from the moment I got one. He was also 10 and he could stay on it for hours, but I had to set a time for him, because he needed to do school work and do some 10 year old stuff. I gave him 2 hours during the week and 4 on week-ends. He could pick between when he got home from school until 9PM. Which ever 2 hours he wanted. He is now 19 and has moved to another country. There is a 7 hour difference in our time and I am glad he is on the pc all the time. lol I talk to him everyday and we both have web cam so I see him most days too. :)

my cousin has been like this when he was a little younger, sitting there for hours to play his favorite game. the good thing is his mother is a disciplinarian and my cuz really has to stop playing whenever it's study time. now that he is older and has some friends to go out with, he spends less time infront of the pc. i think it is best that you limit your son's pc time to an hour or two, encourage him to do other things which are fun so as to dissuade him from hugging the pc all throughout the day

Computer addiction is really hard to stop, but if you set rules on the use of computer that will help to limit his time for sitting in front of the computer. Have his eyes check because too much exposure to computer's monitor can cause poor eyes vision.

oh god this is the mistake parents do most times allow children to sit at tender age in front of pc's which have a bad effect on thier brain n eye sight as they will tender and this will make them loose concentration and thinking capacity might come down so always take care children above 15 should only be allowed to spend more time on the pc i feel

How much time your son spends at the PC depends on whether his other needs are being met. Does he get enough exercise? Is he socializing enough with other kids to mature emotionally? Does he help you around the house? Is he getting his school work done? Make sure your son is doing the above things and anything else you find important, before letting him have time on the computer.

I think as long as the PC is in a active area of the house so you can see what he is looking at and you might want to get solfware like net nanny also . I think he needs some excercise but you know your child and if he is over weight or not .Maybe try get him involved in after school activaties see if there is any clubs that deal with computors .

Not much. If he is playing games, then you must control it. its not good for eyes, mind and body to sit infront of the computer for long.

it's good for your son to be intersted in computer. I think there would be more and more kids who love computer beause our lives rely too much on computer now. it's really a problm to arrange the schedule for his time on PC. you know, sometimes we are addicted to computer, also internet. I think it depends on what he does on computer. If he uses computer just for game, you'd better not not let him free. and if he wanna learn somthing, such as programming, or writing his own code with some computer language. Then you should encourage him to do that. Also it is not good to his eyes sitting in the front of pc for a long time. so just give him a schedule to use computer. I mean, you can let him sit there for about 2 hours, then have a rest. Good luck to you!!

I have the same problem, but i'm the son in the story. My mom always telling me to stop being with the computer so much, and get up and do something else. But what can I do? I love to spend my time infront the computer. I think that you should let your son be with the computer how much time he want, as long it doesn't effect on his grades in school and him as a human. People can lose their minds with sitting infront of the computer all time. Another thing is the muscles that need to be move from time to time. You can advice your kid to do some sport once in a week, it only do good for him and in the future. Doing nothing and just sitting is one of the main reason of getting fat. So, give your son something to think about. By the way, you can ask his friends to call him and take him out. When a friend is asking you to go out you almost always can't refuse. That's my point of view as a teen that addicted to computer just like your son, and I had some arrguments with my mom about it. Hope you two can sattle it down. Good luck :)

My son also attends school online so he spends alot of time at the computer all day. However, once school is over he is only allowed 30mins of fun then he is done for the day.

I taught my 35 month old nephew how to use computers when he was 15 months old. Now I am regretting that I did it so early. He goes to sleep thinking of computers and games and wakes up saying thinks he want to do with the computer.Talk about computer obsession. He gets to spent about 2 hours daily on the computer. But he seems to content since the time is usually given to him at different times of the day. He likes to try new things on the computer so most of the time the computer hang up. May be a new computer genius is on the way.lol. Regards

One of my friends has a brother who is crazy for computers and always has been. His mother let him sit there pretty much as much as he wanted wich today has caused him to be aloner. he has no friends, other than online. he does no longer go to school and his health is not good. he has been diagnosed with addiction for computers (yes there actually is something called that ) and his mom now wished that she had stopped him while he was younger. I do belive that a few hours a day is more than enough. Kids needs to do other things ´than sit infront of a screen all day!
