I think so. There are two categories of pizza. One is the Margherita, the other is the Marinari. The former variety is named after an Italian queen , who liked the variety. Though pizza has its origin thousands of years ago, the Pizza that we eat today was originally an item made for the poor people of Naples, over 200 years ago.

I would say is quite universal. In Paraguay, it was not sold to the public till uruguayan people opened a pizza shop in Asuncion, the capital city. That's what I was told and I suppose it to be true.
