i am watching this show on tv. it's about this guy that was in a bar. he is gay. but he doesnt bother anyone. someone followed him to his car and they started attacking him and brutally murdering him. they tied him to a fence and i think this is ridiculous. why do people discriminate? i am friends with gay people guys and girls. that doesnt make me gay. they are people just like everyone else is. if they are not botherng you then why do you bother them??? they haven't done anything wrong to you.. also during his funeral people were holding up signs and saying bad things against this guy that people loved. this should not be allowed.. tell me what you think about it..

we are all people with thoughts and feelings who cannot help who we fall in love with or what we are. There are things about all of us that other people don't like but it gives them no rightto behave disgracefully. I hate that sort of thing I don't careabout anyones labes as long as they are nice and behave in a way that doesn't harm others. Life is too short to go out hurting people becasue we do not understand them or because secretly we fear we may be like them. What a horrible world, it makes you feel ashamed for these evil thugs

I agree, people can be so hateful and ignorant and it really is sad that in today's world that we have so many problems. I would be ashamed if anyone I knew would behave like that, and I doubt very much that I would be their friend any longer.

you are right and that's exactly how i feel. but it seems no one listens. love is love it doesn't come in a particular shape or form until you find what's true to your heart. no one is gonna like everything about everyone. that still gives them no right to kill someone. thank you for your response

OMG this is redeculus! we shouldnt behave them disgracefully, indeed we dont have any right to do it as long as they are harmless. i agree with rainbow. as long as we have the right to fall in love why dont gays have the same? coz they r gay? this is pitiful. i have a friend of mine whos a gay. but apart from that we r good friends and we dont have any problem with his gay stuffs. he shares everything including his most private kept secrets with me. we r good friends and he never felt other wise and never been harmful. so no problem from my part aswell. and god this is soo rediculus and never could think about kiling! those freaks were nuts and physcho!

I don't think that your personal preference of partner should matter. A few years ago I was out with some friends, and I met Shannon. I could not tell if Shannon was a guy or a girl, and I didn't dare ask for fear of sounding rude. Shannon had a short haircut, a deep voice, and baggy clothes. Finally she said something to make me realize she was a girl, but it probably would have taken me longer had I not heard her say that, because all she did was talk about girls. She was a lesbian. Eventually we became really good friends and I had to tell her that when I first met her I couldn't tell the difference, and she said that she used to get beat up so much when she wore her hair and clothes like a girl that it just fit her better to look like a boy so less questions were asked. I felt so bad for her. She was one of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life, and I had more fun with her than most other people. She never crossed the line of friendship/lover so I never had any reason not to feel comfortable around her. I think people just act on their own insecurities too much, and it really is a sad thing.

That's what I mean,(I think I am the 16th post or something, lol) you can't judge or discriminate in fact anyone.. because of their looks or the way they love or choose partners..There's always a person behind the 'looks', the 'religion', the 'color' or whatever is choosen to discriminate.. We all are that person behind the 'looks' ourselves..We all are. You know what I mean?

This show was based on a true story. Or at least it sounds like it was, because I remember when this actually happened. People discriminate because they were taught this in their home. It is a learned behavior. Some people are brought up that way and change over time after they experience life for themselves. Other people act out this behavior because they are hiding something much worse and this makes them look cool in front of their friends. Peer pressure and raising determine this kind of behavior.

yes it was a true story on city confidential. these kind of people are harsh and they are the bullies at the bars and clubs. they think making fun or picking on others that are not like them are lower than them and they think it makes them look big. especially in front of their friends. i know that raising has a lot to do with it but why do they raise their kids like this?? slavery has been over for a long time. and there never should have been slavery in the first place.

it was a real event...it happened in the mid to late 90's, and the man's name was matthew sheppard. it was a huge deal, i remember it even though i was young. in a way i think that everyone discriminates to an extent, but most try to overcome differences.

Humans are creatures that discriminate. To discriminate simply means to prefer something better than another. Which is why no one always orders just the very first item on a menu. Racial discrimination and attacks on others for simply appearing or being different is quite another matter! I think it is mere insanity to assault another for being different or having different viewpoints. For example, I am nicotine intolerant and will stay away from smokers whenever I can; I do not support casual abortion, but will never assault or kill a doctor performing abortions; I do not condon the gay/lesbian lifestyle, but will never be uncivil to a gay or lesbian beyong what I will do to a straight person. I believe these mad reactions by the often so-called religious moralists are the result of extreme ignorance and misinterpretation of whatsoever holy book they allege to be acting by. Come to think of it, a good number of our world problems today are the result of the acts of religious extremists!

yes discrimination is a very diverse topic like you mentioned with the food menu and then the serious discrimination. everyone has to discriminate a little because otherwise we would all be the same and all eat the same kind of food and drink the same drinks. then their would be no need for big menus just have 1 thing on it and everyone would be happy. God didn't create the world like this unless he had a purpose for it. that's right. just because you don't condone what gays/lesbians/abortionists/smokers do you are not harsh or mean towards them. because that is also not right. religious moralists are so not what they say they are. they will say one thing and then flip over and take off their mask at home. thanks for the great response

discrimination is also an act of 'judgement'. This is our biggest lesson in life; don't judge. It doesn't even come to a fact if the problems today are a result of the acts of rel. extremists; It's all about 'Judgement' from one to another or from a group to another. I am not religious in the way of 'religion', but I do know what is in the 'Holy Books' and I know what Jesus said; who he is without sin throw the first stone..and no one threw a stone...It's about knowing that the other person always is the same light you are! There is no one on this earth how has not been born, right? So.. no one can be judged on the experience he/she is going through in life. It is our responsibility to be without judgement, because you could have been the other person if you where born in that situation! Then how can we judge? Because it's we belief too firm in the illusion called life. We have free will and every choice brings us to a different situation and it starts with birth.. We all see 'the light' at birth and we all see 'the light' when we die and what is in between is what we choose. Let's say, if we choose to be discriminative and we would act like that, our choices may lead to a situation in which you will be discriminated yourself, maybe with getting a job or with being in a sportsteam, or not taken as a client, it could be anything. If one sees through this he or she will never discriminate another fellow human, that's obvious.. Anyway, it's the biggest chalenge for humanity at this point, if we learn to be without judgement, we would be living in a totally different world..

I do not discriminate people and I respect for who they are and where they came from. I think no one has the right to discriminate one especially in their culture or in their personality. We have different culture and personality and everybody should understand that. I sympathized with the gay who has been abused. Even if he is gay he has all the right to go where he wants to go and has the right to be respected personally.

i also respect who people are and where they came from. i have met many people. all types of races and all types of backgrounds and they have so much to offer the world. people are humans. you can't just kill a person for being different. gay people have every right to sit in a straight bar and get a drink. they are paying customers. this reminds me of slavery to a point. the whites had their own schools and buses and the blacks had to walk. since they could not hold jobs of any significance that would mean they couldnt own their own business so they could have equal rights. thanks for responding.

I don't discriminate anyone, not gay, lesbian, religion, abilities, skin colour or anything that could be usefull to discriminate someone. We are all born, we all have fathers and mothers, a nose, a mouth, we all go to the toilet (even the queen), we eat food (or something that looks like that), we can cry, we can laugh, we belief things and we all have feelings; we are not that different from eachother all though, it 'Looks' like that..because everyone 'looks' different. Or because of you love in a different way.. We all have a soul and a purpose. Nobody has choosen to be gay, or to be coloured or to be born poor or rich.. We are being born in situations we cannot know before we are 'consciouss' about it. We all have a light in ourselves, a bright light that makes us alive. That light is divine, so how can I discriminate the divine in us? We should be without judgement and see in our innerselves how we Are One... ;-) If you don't see the answer, just start reading again...

to me i befriend the people that are discriminated against. i have many muslim friends and many gay/lesbian friends as well. i also talk with the people that are limited in their abilities as they deserve to be talked to as a person not by their ability. because they take it and grow with their ability. we all have a place here on earth and were put here for a reason. looks dont give a person a reason to not like anyone. they have the same stuff we do we live in the same world as each other so we might as well make the best of it while we're here. i clearly see the answer you are speaking of. thank you very much for responding to my discussion and other people's postings.

I don't think this is a matter of discriminating or not. It's a matter of how far people take their discrimination against someone. Let's face it: everyone discriminates against someone or something that they have encountered in their life. Most people won't admit that, but it's true. In reference to this particular story, yes I think it's horrible that this situation occurred. There is definitely a line that was crossed in this situation.

We should not descriminate anybody. God has given all of us life. So let us be kind to everybody. It is nobody's fault that they are gay, ugly, dumb, deaf whatevery it maybe. We should be glad that we are not like that and let us be kind to others.

I hate discrimination of any kind - whether over sexuality, colour or religion. Now we are in 2007 I would have hoped discriminating against people on such grounds would no longer be an issue - it is sad that it doesn't seem to be the case.

i dont discriminate people becAUse if you discriminate them you have given them also the right to discriminate you! what they did to that guy is bad! you dont kill a person because he's GAY! they should be put in jail! Gay people also have feelings and they do get hurt just like us.

yes that's true. the guy that did this and his friend that helped are both in jail i believe it's life without parrol. they were proud of what they did and they gave out autographs to prisoners that wanted them. i thought that was horrible. gay people are people exactly as you said with feelings and with pain in their hearts. they just desire to be accepted as everyone of a seperate race or background desires.

I agree with you, as I also have many friends like this. They all understand that I am not that way. I have never looked down at them for being the way they are just like they don't look down on me. I have seen some of the cruel treatment that people have had to endure because of their sexuality and it is not right. My best friend is a lesbian and I could not ask for a better friend in the world. She has the biggest heart and does not deserve to be treated the way that some people treat her.

that's right. they don't look down on us or discriminate against us because we are not like them. your friend has a heart beating inside of her that makes her human take away everything and she is human. think of her as a human and that's what she is. not she likes girls eww. so what if she likes girls. that's fine. it's what makes her happy and it makes her who she is. thank you for sharing your friendship with us here at mylot.
