why isn't my bread mouldy?

January 12, 2007 10:25am CST
In November i bought a loaf od bread for 20p (as a normal loaf is 90p i wasn't expecting much), needless to say it wasn't very nice, it had a horrible dry, stale taste. I never finished eating the loaf and thought i had thrown it away, however whne clenaing up my kitchen fo the first time in a while (well obviously the first time since november) i found the loaf of bread hiding in a cupboard. I know what your thinking, that must have been disgusting. I was expoecting to find that i had created a new race of tiny people where the bread once was, but possibly more worryingly the bread looked exactly the same, not a bit of mould on it. Is this because there isn't actually any sort of organic material in the bread? what the hell was it made from if leaving it out for nearly 3 months doesn't make it mouldy?

Hmmmm...not sure of the answer to this one but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I remember years ago, when I was at school, our science teacher wanted us to put some bread aside and let it go mouldy...four weeks later nothing had happened and I could never uderstand why. I'll keep an eye on this post and hopefully someone will be able to explain.

I think it has a lot to do with yeast and we should be happy about that to save money
