Starting discussions in unrelated interests

Why do we have interests if people are going to start random, unrelated discussions in them? Does anyone else get annoyed by this? Is it just to get credit for starting a discussion in an interest?

I have trouble finding where to put the interests. Unless you already have an interest added, how do you assign it one when you post? I always end up putting mine in general if I don't have an interest set up. Posting under an incorrect interest though is irresponsible to the integrity of mylot and yes it does annoy me. Easy enough to put it in general.

In one case, I was confused at what the topic was and posted on it by mistake. But, I'm starting to believe that people are placing random topics in discussions just to boost their ratings. I found two people left jokes in a discussion we started about depression. WHY? I don't understand. It made me give my first negative rating. Felt bad...but trying to make this MyLot thing work.

Jokes in a depression group. That's either cruel, or they're trying to help. Negatives are hard to give, but they'll benefit the whole site.

Yeah, I have no idea why people do this. It's pretty annoying. Maybe they think starting a discussion in a popular interest will increase the liklihood of them getting a response. No matter what their reasoning it shouldn't be allowed. There should be some kind of report link and if enough people report a discussion, it should be removed.
