Salman, a british-india novelist and essayist is the author of the controversial book titlled "Satanic Verses". He was sentenced to death without trial by Ayatollah Rauhola for having insulted Islam. He consequently went into hiding for several years. I have not heard of this , but as with many people involved wholeheartedly in religion or other things, they do not like it being talked about. Therefore their attitudes ill not change towards this person.
