A Florida schoolteacher has been put on probation for charging pupils bribes to let them skip PE classes. Apparently, she charged them a dollar a day and then they could skip the class. She was sentenced to 3 years of probation, and ordered to do three hundred hours of community service. She was also banned from teaching for three years. Wow, the things teachers will do. She must have been pretty hard up for money to be charging her students $1 a day. I will admit, I would have paid $5 a day to get out of P.E. I even signed up for weight lifting because everyone said it was easier and it counted as a P.E. course. My 3 bestfriends and I all signed up and we were the only females in that class. It was pretty easy though! My son is the complete opposite - he loves P.E. and joins as many sports as he can. He didn't get that from me, that's for sure!

I understand so much about you saying that you would have paid even up to $5 a day to get out of gym class. do you know, in high school I belatedly found out that if i had joined the band, I could have gotten out of PE? I really wished that i had done that. I already had taken viola lessons in elementary school for a year, anyway, although that was orchestra and not band. But I would have enjoyed being in the band. Oh, well! ^_^ I think that it's cool that you joined the weight lifting class and that you and your friends were the only three girls! *laugh* ^_^

And here I thought teachers teached because they enjoyed teaching and was not out to make an extra buck! Well, I came from the Florida school system just last year and I can say that I do not think that Florida has a very good school system. This just reinforces that opinion.

LOL! I thought that also. I thought that teachers taught because they liked to teach...because they do not make a lot of money. Although, some teachers I think should be paid more! There are some really great teachers out there!! :D

There is no indication as to how long she had been doing this for or how much money she made in all. I think one of her punishments should be to give the money she "earned" to charity.

You're right, and it would have been really nice if they had provided us with more info in the news story. It really would be good if she had to give that money to charity! Possibly something to do with school. Or at least, the money should have went back to help the school district! *laugh* There is no way that she should've been allowed to keep the money. But you know, I bet that they never found out exactly how much she made. I doubt that it would be easy for them to prove it, as I doubt that every student would be willing to come forth with how much they paid her. So that's probably why it wasn't included in the news story. ^_^

We can't expect all people to be sincere in their work. This is happenning all over the world. If everyone is sincere in their work poverty and starvation should have been eliminated by this time. So we must find and remove the weeds like this for the welfare of the people.

Well, I can look at this two ways: 1. What she did was terrible and sets a very bad prescedent for children that they can get out of things by buying their way out. 2. This teacher gave these kids a head start in society by teaching them that it's often possible to buy your way out of something you don't enjoy. Sad, isn't it?

Yes, I know :/ And I have to admit that I was overweight even before I entered school for the first time. I was overweight almost from the age that I was old enough to feed myself, I bet. The only pictures I have seen of myself where I wasn't are when I was a toddler. It is only in the last few years that I've lost a lot of weight. But of course this caused me to hate PE even more in school. I'm not an active person, and I don't like active activities or sports in general all that much.

Serves the teacher right. This teacher should have been banned permanently from teaching. It is apparent that she is in it for the wrong reasons. If she was not happy with her teaching salary, why not change careers.

Hahahaha! I guess she wanted some more Georges!! I don't know why? That isn't a lot of money. Unless everyone was paying a dollar. Was she the PE teacher, or a "school teacher"?? And, just to let you know...the site that you gave brought me to an article on Menagerie in luggage. Haha! Funny article! :DD

that teacher really made herself look pathetic. she should've cahrged a higher amount if she wanted to, instead if charging a small amount. well, anyway, that incident made us all aware of the things happening inside the schools. we're alll not aware of such things before, and these makes us aware of them. that teacher should really be ashamed of what she did. maybe she wasn't a good teacher that's why her students would pay her just to skip class.

I am a true spas. Letting me out of gym would have been a gift to everyone. I hate PE. I could not play basketball or volley ball to save my life and those were pretty much the options. My son's PE was very different. He could choose things like walking. One time he took the weight room and he said he was so tall that he could do chin up while standing on the floor and when he saw the instructor walking by the window, he would just bend his knees. Or throw water on his face, like he was sweating. And then lean on the window so the instructor could not see everyone else goofing off.

AHAHAHHA.. and if I had been in that class, I would have TOTALLY paid the money. I hated PE. I don't agree with that if it was in elementary or middle school. Those kids can't decide, and sometimes, it's the only exercise that they will get. On the other hand, if it was high school.. who cares?? If they're going to skip it, they're going to skip it wether they have to pay for it or not. I skipped enough PE classes with my friends to know that. What a stupid class in high school .
