SACHIN appointed as the new Vice Captain, Kumble dropped

Yesterday durinf the Selector's meet at Rajkot, Sachin was selected as the new Vice Captain replacing Virender Sehwag. I think thats a very good decision by Vengsarkar. He is definitely a good leader than Virender Sehwag. But vice captain or just another player in the Team, Sachin definitely has a say in all major decisions. Another shocking news was that Kumble has been dropped. After bowling so well in the One Dayers in South Africa, this is what he gets. I don't think whats going on in the minds of the Indian Think Tank. Probably they are resting him. I hope its true cause the Team was announced just for the first 2 ODIs against West Indies.

Regarding Sachin, I guess it is a signal to the present captain to try and make things better. Generally we do not find anyone appointed as Vice Captain in a home series. In this case Sachin has been appointed Vice Captain just to keep Dravid in pressure. If my reading goes right we may Sachin captaining India in the World Cup unless under Dravid's captaincy India does something extremely positive in the forthcoming one-dayers. Regarding Kumble, his name has not been taken because it seems Indian think-tank is considering him as a special weapon to be used in final and most important battle. Kumble should play in the World Cup.

About new Vice Captains not being appointed in Home Series, the decision had to be taken as the Former Vice Captain Sehwag was dropped. And yeah there might be some pressure on Dravid in two ways. Firstly Sachin's appointment as vice captain might threaten him. Secondly, Ganguly has almost cemented his place in the Team and who knows even he might take over captaincy if India fails in the World Cup. And I am surprised that Kumble has never been considered for leadership either as captain or even vice captain.

Hi nishant, its very nice to find a indian here you are the first indian i have met on mylot.Ya i agree with you that it is a good decision to make Sachin as vice captian. He will be now knowing what his responsibilities are.It will improve his way of p[laying as per i think because the time has changed now Sachin is now not that yonger sachin who can't take the responsibilities. Also i agree with your this saying that it was a wrong decision by vengsarkar by not giving kumble a chance as per i know kumble was the second most sucessful bowler in tests cricket.I also think they are giving him rest and finding that is harbhajan also a good choice to be with them for the world cup.

dropping virehdra sehwag is one good thing.boldly and rightly taken decision and right time.i think kumble has only been rested and will be available for the next ODIs.As most of the players are newcomers the responsibility of Captain and vice captain are more.hence it is right to give Sachin the post of vice captain.inclusion of Ganguly has added some strength to the batting line up.so we can expect a Winning match from the team in the coming series.

I hope what you said about Kumble is true. And don't worry about Sachin. He will soon strike form. He has never failed in a World Cup since 1996.

Good that Sehwag was removed from the team. I think he needs some rest and also some practise. Let me come back to form. Regarding Ganguly, I think Sachin and Ganguly make a very good opening pair. I'm sure they'll play real good and interesting criket.

Sachin is defanitely a good leader. He has a positive attitude and has a whole lot of experience. But I dont think making him the vice captain makes any difference. He is always an inevitable member in all the major team discussions both on and off the field. About Anil Kumble , I dont think he has been dropped. He is just rested so that other players would get a chance. He too has the experience with him which makes him an unavoidable prospect for India's world cup plans...

i dont think sachin is a good leader as you said.selector had given him ammple time to prove his leadership skills but he failed.i think dhoni can be good option for vice captain.and making sachin vice captain is i think his insult.because its a kind of demotion.lets see what happens in west indies series.

yes i think this is good dission made by vegsarkar actuly this must have been taken befor westindies tour. But i think sachin is not a good captan for indian team though he is good batsman forever. This is shocking that kumbale is not selected for this tour. he is one man army for indian bowler.

ya i think it is right.. Kumble has been rested for sometime..I am sure he will be back with an awesome performace and sachin had to be the captain actually but i heard that he too told in front of everyone that he cant bat properly when he is the captain coz of the tension..thats why he is not the captain.. but i think he is capable of being a vice-captain.. Lets hope that we will win the upcoming series agains west indies..

I too some time dont understand why they do drop the in form Kumble. He was in great form in South Africa. These things can decrease the moral of a player. However what i can think is that they have the world cup n mind and so are still trying out some players. They know that Kumble can perform when ever he gets a chance. sachin promoted as the Vice captain is a very good move in my view. He is having so much of experience that any eam and player can ever think of. A real and natural talent. this will give the team a moral boost and they can perform better.

Yes sachin himself denounced captaincy but he should always have been the vice captain of the team simply because of his experience and the respect he commands in the team. Kumble rest assured that he has been rested for two games otherwise another parliament discussion on the same will be ensured

kuble is best in test matches but one day requires a pace bnowlers and a far as sachin is concerned is deresves that place

Thats a very wrong thing to say that ODIs require pace bowlers only. Spinners have a very vital role to play especially in the middle overs. Basically their role is to contain batsmen. And Kumble is perfect at that and he also takes wickets while containing. On his bad day he might go for 45 runs off 10 overs and thats not bad in One Day Cricket.

well i doubt if its a good move to make sachin the vice captain as we all have seen how sachins performance began to go bad when he was made the captain of the team.i think he is not comfortable enough to balance his own performance with the responsibility of guiding the team together very much.i fell he should be left alone as a player and then only he performs to his fullest. and for kumble no matter how much time he has been dropped he will be back in the team at the main time and show his wonders.

i dont think dropping kumble is a wise step...he can be very useful for the indian team...he has won many matches for india and still he has the capability to do the same...the selectors should gave given him one more chance

Kumble has not been dropped, he is just rested and he is sure to play in the one day series at same stage, but what bewilders me is the selection of Sachin Tendulkar as a vice captain to Rahul Dravid. The reality is, Tendulkar is not even half the good player that once he was, but on the other hand, Sehwag was not even half the vice captain that once Rahul Dravid to Ganguly was. Since most of the players are newcomers, I believe Lakshman should have been selected to play in the one day matches and he should have been given the responsibility of the vice captain thing.

What you said about Sachin not being even half of what he used to be is absolutely false. You cannot just make that statement on the basis of a couple of series. And mind you he was the second highest scorer in the Test Series against SA for India after Ganguly. If you rate players on the basis of a couple of series, then eve Dravid is half of what he used to be. He failed in Malaysia, then in the Champions Trophy and the the whole SA tour. The same should be applicable for Laxman too. At least Sachin showed a decent performance in the Test Series and also he played well in Malaysia. And about Laxman being selected as Vice Captain, he doesn't have any captaincy experience. And his own place in the ODI side isn't cemeneted, how can he be made Vice Captain?

i also feel it was a good decision to drop sehwag and announce tendulkar to be the vice captain ,but also i feel dravid should resign as captain because of a defensive captiancy and make saurav back the captain of india in order to get back the same wining streak we had on kumble being dropped i feel i has to be a dumb or stupid thinking on the selectors part because if kumble has to play the world cup he has to have practice to play matches for the worldcup i pity the Indian team ;hope they play well in westindies

I feel Sachin is a self-centred player whom should not have any responsibilities at all. You could be master batsman but he is not a good leader. If he had been a good leader after playing for 17 years he need not be just play as a team member. Everyone needs to shoulder the responsibility at some time, being a team member alone will not be enough, you should always lead the people from front thats the greatness. People would say Sachin is a greatest player but afterall he does not know how to lead a team.

So how does that makes him self-centered?
