The Queen Mary 2 is sailing into San Francisco bay on Feb 4 and 5th... it is the second largest cruise ship in the world! I want to take a look. Have you ever been on it? or one like it... maybe make a reccomendation. thanks!

I have never been on a cruise ship before. I am planning to go on vacation next summer so I might decide to take a cruise then.

I've been on several cruises although nothing like the Queen Mary 2. I've been on some of Holland American's ships and also Carnival. They can be a great way to take a vacation. Overall the prices are good for them although I do recommend booking early if possible to get better rates. Considering they include all food and basic drinks like milk, coffee, tea, in the price you can't complain. I would love to go on a cruise like the Queen Mary 2 or the QE2 but little out of my price range.

A week ago or so, a big cruise ship (was it the QMII?) was docked in Lisbon. An old lady fell overboard, they searched for a few hours but they couldn't find the body, so the ship just sailed away! Am I the only person who finds this disturbing? I know they're running a business, but it's just disrespectful. I've never been on a cruise, never really though about it. I suppose it's a good way to travel to different places and stay there for a few hours. But then again, being confined to a ship and not being able to set the course to your liking, it's a little claustrophobic. On firm land, if you feel like packing up and leaving, it's always an option! :)

I totally agree with the clastrophobic non-option on a big boat. I have never taken a cruise and i doubt i will. Just stopping in at a port for a few hours or day sounds like a trip to the mall hehe... plus i heard they make you spend your money on board coz you get bored... and so you just eat and eat (which in your case you would absolutely hate it!!) (they say one gains 10 pounds per cruise. I took a cruise class so i could become travel agent someday) yeah no cruise for me, id rather take a bus or drive or fly. I was reading this book about a guy that traveled thru Italy on a Vespa! Varuuuummmmm! By the way, people are always jumping or falling off those ships... it must be the claustrophobics! But since the QMII is supposed to sail UNDER the golden Gate bridge I might go down and take a few pics. I will post them on myLot.
