are your parents too overprotective?

Sometimes i get the feeling that my parents are being over protective,By this i mean that they are anxious of me doing anything fearing the worst case scenario.
For example i wanted to learn to ride a bike and get a bike but my parents would say u'll get into accidents if u take bike.
They wont understand our point of view .its like they are protecting us.but in reality they are spoiling us by making us less competitive than others.
What say?Do any of you have the same kind of feeling or otherwise.
please do share your thoughts on this .

I hate my parents when they tell me what i have to do!Sometimes i think that they want to arange my life how they want.they tell me what i have to eat,drink,and what i hate more is that they tell me what kind of music i can sing!why i can' do what i want?
