You can actually buy yourself or someone else a piece of the moon?!? I did not know this. I was just surfing looking at a lot of weird things and I stumbled across this, moon reality. What the bloody hell I asked myself so I read it, sometimes curiosity only brain damages the cat not quite killing it, out of curiosity to see what their angle is. I guess according to the 1967 UN Outer Space Treaty no government can own the Moon or any celestial body but the law does not state that individuals/ corporations cannot, (God this is starting to look like a discussion by DoubleB) so there was this Mr. Dennis Hope who went to his local US Governmental Office for claim registries, the San Francisco County Seat, and made a claim for the entire lunar surface, as well as the surface of all the other eight planets of our solar system and their moons (except Earth and the sun *why he would not want the sun I do not know*). He was at first thought of as crazy, until, 5 hours and 3 supervisors later, the main supervisor accepted, and registered his claim, this was in 1980. So Mr. Dennis Hope started the Lunar Embassy and began selling extraterrestrial land. I am not going to put a link to the site since there are many of them (franchises and such) but if you do a search (google, yahoo, msn, etc.. ) you will find it aplenty. My problem comes in hereā€¦..If Mr. Dennis Hope aka Lunar Embassy does own the moon as claimed does that not mean that NASA has to pay them a fee for every lunar trip to HIS property? What do you think? By the way, have I expressed how very much I hate the 500 rate paste rule!!! I've typed this three times now.

THAT was a very interesting thing to find out!! I wonder how much of it is true!! I keep seeing this stuff about how the actual first trip to the moon was a fake and done in a studio...so it makes you wonder if this is true!! I am just beside myself with confusion!!! LMAO!! BUT...if it is true, I give this Mr. Dennis Hope some major "props"/high 5's in that he knew EXACTLY what he was doing!!! Pretty smart if you ask me!! Now it is just a matter of time before we start living there. Just like that movie "Pluto Nash" with Eddie Murphy...that was a trip to think of also. But with the creative minds that everyone has, I'm sure that something is bound to happen soon!!

If he could actually back up the legitimancy of his claim he could be a very wealthy man. ut we all know how well hat worked out for those people hat tried to own the Brooklyn Bridge. I do not think it will be too long before we are colonizing the moon since we are destroing this beautiful Earth we already have Thank you for the post and have a great day!!

that's interesting. i think nobody should really own the moon. but what's even more interesting is that people would spend money just to buy some parcel of sand that they wouldn't even use. i bet they wouldn't even be able to visit this property of theirs. more people in the world could have used their money. people need food in some parts of the world. why spend their money to buy the moon?

"I live in a cardboard box here on Earth but by God I am a landowner on the Moon!!" YEEEEEEEE HAW!!! "My Family is so great we even own part of the moon!" see... tapping the peice of paper they get with their purchase of the moon. "I told you that I would amount to something. I own 40 acres of the moon." Hmmmmm.... I guess these could continue but I am sure that you see where I am going with this!! Thank you for the post and have a great day!!

I've heard of people having stars named after them, but owning a piece of the moon? That's a bit extravagant. Mr. Hope sure has some major ummm...gusto lol for seeking ownership of the moon in the first place. This just goes to show you that people will sell just about anything because other people will buy just about anything. Sheesh!

Nothing like owning land that you will probabally never place your feet upon. I guess this Mr. Hope also staked claim to all of the planets in the solar system excluding the earth and the sun. Mr. Hope reminds mee of, "Want to own a peice of the Brooklyn Bridge?!?" HAHA!! Thank you for the post and have a great day!!

oh wow. So the moon is owned by somebody? I wonder how much each piece of the moon would cost. Congrats to Mr. Hope who thought of claiming the moon; that's the strangest idea I've heard in awhile. His business card must look so odd: Dennis Hope, owner and seller of the surfaces of the moon and other planets. Strange he didn't buy/claim the sun as well though- he sun is the most important thing to us here on the earth... And yes, the 500 rate paste rule is quite annoying! I used to cut and paste around my sentences when writing responses, since they make more sense in another part of the response.

That is so strange. I wonder how much Mr. Hope paid for his piece of property on the moon? And is he now selling lovely crater front lots? That is crazy. But that is a good question about whether or not NASA would have to pay him if they make any trips there. Interesting.

I guess all he paid was the filing fees to file his claim and now he is selling lots for $29.95 per acre. Once again, nothing like owning land you may never place your feet upon!! Thank you for the post and have a nice day!!

is this the same as you can purchase stars from the universe and name it after our own name?

Not from what I understand. Aparently this guy went and staked claim to the land, kind of like the English Settelers here in America, and now he is selling parcels of land an acre at a time. The Star thing is just purchasing the ability to name a star and get it put in the star regestry not actual ownership as the Lunar Embassy claims. thank you for the post and have a great day!!
