Calling All Van Morrison Fans... Are You Out There?

I'm a great fan of Van Morrison, and have several of his CDs. I think my favourite Van songs are Madam George (the Astral Weeks version), And It Stoned Me and of course, Brown-Eyed Girl. I bumped into Van one Sunday morning in Pogo. I was the only one in a games room and he came in and started chatting. He left when one of his stalkers came into the room, and blew me a kiss as he left. lol. I only saw him one other time, on New Year's Eve of the same year... think it was 2004. I saw him on, and went to wish him Happy New Year. He was really sweet. I also saw him in concert at the Brighton Centre a few years ago. He is so versatile in the instruments he plays, and I just love his music. There were not more than about a dozen people in their seats; almost everyone was dancing in the aisles or on the floor in front of the stage. It was fannnnnntastic. I'd love to see him again, but I missed him the last time he was in Brighton. What are your favourite songs and memories of Van Morrison?

I adore Van Morrison. I am not a religious person, but his music takes me very close to some kind of higher ground. I did see him, just the once, back in 1996 at the Wembley Arena in London, and the whole concert just blew me away. I have never seen an audience so mesmerised. It is very difficult to pick one single favourite track of Van's, as over the last 44 years, he has been one of the UK's most productive and lasting artists. Darkwing - how wonderful that you met The Man and I'm so pleased he was sweet to you. We hear so many stories of how difficult he can be at times, but my feelings are that he gets tired of being interviewed and asked the same, often stupid questions over and over again. And, for a person to write such deep, warm, spiritual and wonderful music plus deliver it in such a heartfelt way, to me indicates he has those qualities as a human being. I would love to meet him, but if ever I was lucky enough to have the chance, I'm sure I'd be totally over-awed. Lovely to see so many other Van fans out there.

I felt that, as I didn't pressure or idolise him and make a big "thing" of it, he accepted me as a friend. I tried to pretend that I wasn't overawed with him... treated him as I would treat anybody else I met on the internet and it worked. As he left the room, he blew me a kiss. *swoon*. He was the perfect gentleman with me and how difficult it was to think that he could be such a tyrant at times. Brightest Blessings my friend and thank you for your contribution.

Yes, I think you're right. He hates a fuss.

Hi Darkwing That's great as I feel that's the way Van wants to be treated/approached, just as an ordinary person - it comes out in some of his songs, his uneasiness about how he's idolised etc., and how fake the music business is. I hae heard one or two radio interviews where he has been very pleasant and cooperative, simply because the interviewer did't put pressure on him, and that's (in my opinion) how it should be. Thanks for your reply and brightest blessings to you too.

I have loved Van's music as far back as I can remember. I really like Into the Mystic, Brown Eyed Girl, And It Stoned Me oh man there are so many. Many people haven't heard a fraction of his music. Kinda like Harry Chapin, few have heard more than 3 songs. Yeah Van is the Man

I meant to explain the Van the Man for those that don't understand. I saw the Last Waltz by The Band, well it must be 30 years ago and Van was there and that is how they introduced him.

And he dared to use that handle in Pogo, too. lol. Yes, Into the Mystique is another excellent song; there are so many, I could go on and on all night. But, what makes the Astral Weeks Madam George favourite for me is the haunting fiddle and gypsy-like music in the background with which his voice blends so well. He seems to be able to change his voice to suit the instrument. Cleaning Windows is a quite amusing track. I like that too. I don't think he can do a bad song in my eyes... he is so versatile. Thank you for your response... it was good to chat about him. :-)

I love Van Morrison, I have had to replace his greatest hits album twice, I think that it was once lost of purpose.(by my husband) LOL I find that his music cheers me up. I think that his best songs for me are brown eyed girl and have I told you lately that I love you. I have never been lucky enough to see him in concert, I would have to go on my own if I did because my husband is not that keen on him.

Let me know if he's in concert up your way, and I'll come with you!!! :-) Very crafty move by yours hubby... you need to give him a talking to! Van's made so many albums, which I'd like to get all of, but I don't think I have the space! lol. I've got a few but have you seen the list? Wow... impressive!

i'm currently listening to 'have i told you lately that i love you' i have grown up with van morrison all my life, my parents always played his cds at home. My dad doesn't miss his concerts..his claim to fame is that he is a friend of one of the people in the band can't remember who it is. We have a joke in my family that if my mum turns on the radio in the morning and a van morrison is playing its good luck for the day and it normally is, so the songs are important to me
