My favorite composer is by far Panchamda. R.D. Burman was way ahead of his time. When judging composers, one mustn't forget the differences in technology and exposure in the two era. Panchamda was one who not only innovated and brought in contemporary instruments and techniques into Indian music, he was one who took Indian music (the filmy type) global. True Raj Kapoor had taken it to Russia, but Pancham took it to the rest of the world. His versatility, finness, blemishless orchestration...all at a time when melody, not instrumentation ruled gave a whole new dimension to Indian film music. And he did it with no compromise of melody either. An idol to the best today, he remains the Boss of Indian music.
