backpain

My son was born 2 years ago. With my labor w/ him I had a lot of back labor compared to when I had my daughter 7 years ago. I ended up getting the epidural w/ him because of the back pain. Pretty much every since he was born 2 years ago at least once a month I have really bad back pain in my lower back. I'm usually down for a week or two then it gets better. It gets so bad sometimes I can barely walk. I tried heating pads, ice, resting, strecthing, etc. To no avail. After the 1st of the year it started hurting again, so I decided to have it checked out because it seems there has to be something wrong. Why would I have so much back pain so often since my son was born? It just seemed like it had to fit hand in hand. Well the docs did xrays and did not see anything wrong so they gave me some pain killers and some muscle relaxers for bed time. They are helping but I can still feel the pain it's just not as bad. I can get around so that's good. I've had the pain now for almost 3 weeks now. I was just curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar? Did you have back labor while giving birth and do you seem to get alot of back pain now? I'm 28 a little over weight (which is my new year's resolution to loose weight as soon as my back stops hurting, lol). A month after my son was born I had to have galbladder surgery. I'm just wondering if the back labor did something permanent and that's what's causing the back pain now! Thanks for any input

I would ask your doctor but I have heard that increasing calcium is a big help. Powerhead showers are good for the affected area. You can use ice because if its muscles swollen or spasams , the doc told me no heat , that it makes it worse.Massages help keep knots out. I have found that a massage deep, one lasting 15 to 20 minutes reduced discomfort.Youll need someone to help out there.

Yea I asked him if I should be using heat or ice. He asked which seemed to work I told hime neither. He told me to try ice through the day and heat at night when i'm trying to relax. I might try the calcium myself just to see if there is any improvement though

it could possibly be related to haveing the epidural during delivery , I have read somwhere that its a side effect but it seems logical ya know your numb and ya could have been staring yourself too hard while pushing but ya couldnt feel it , and of course these the whole needle thing .... i know how it is :( next time ya go to the doc ask him if could have somithing to do with the epidural that may get you more help ~M~

I did mention that since it seems like I've had the pain since my son was born but didn't seem like it would be that. I'm thinking I'm going to go the chiroprator soon

I'd suggest seeing a chiropractor and getting an adjustment to your back; see if they have a knee drop table and if they can use a stim machine on your back after the adjustment. Another thing that could help is to stretch out for about ten minutes a day. This will help with mobility and to lessen the pain. Since you said that you are trying to lose weight, stretching can help in this resepct too. I'm not one to go for pain pills and I hate it when a doc thinks that prescribing them right off the bat is the best way to go. Most doctors think that chiropractors are quacks but I don't know what I would do without mine. Good luck!
