Copy&Paste

I realize that Mylot is trying to make their site a better place, when they put up new rules and standings. However, some of these new rules are really hurting people that don't need to be hurt in the process. And when I say hurt, I'm using that term loosely. I'm not saying that they physically, emotionally, or mentally hurt the people- so don't even start going into a rant about how I'm someone whose feelings are too easily hurt, because that's not how I mean it. Now that, that's out of the way, I'll get on with my rant! I'm on a tight income, the only internet service provider that I can afford, is dial up. Now, those of you who are as unfortunate as myself, realize that dial up has a lot of problems- though it is much better than having no internet connection at all. Due to dial up pages open slower, sometimes not at all if the connection is just too crappy to register. I also have a problem with my internet explorer crashing quite a lot, due to the dial up getting too laggish. Due to this problem, I always type up all of my important stuff in a text pad, and then copy&paste it onto whatever site I'm currently writing on. I do this with all of my sites, including my own role playing forums. I learned the hard way that I simply have too, because my explorer crashes far too often, and then I lose everything that I had previously typed up. With one of Mylot's new updates, they've decided that nobody with a ranking of below 500 can copy and paste material into discussions, comments, etc. This is driving me crazy, it takes me forever to get on Mylot to begin with, and now I have to type all of my stuff directly into the box, and risk having it crash and lose everything. In fact, I've already lost this discussion THREE times, and I can tell you that if it crashes again, I will most certainly NOT be retyping it.

I have a suggestion that may help you a little bit. I used to use Internet Explorer all the time and started having problems like you are. I looked around online and found Mozilla Firefox. I downloaded it and have been using it eve since. It works so much better for me than IE ever did, you should definitely check it out. I also have dial up as well, so I know all too well about the pages taking forever to open and it taking so long to download programs, but trust me Firefox is worth it.

Thank you for the response, Breezie. Actually, I have Firefox as well, and you're right it's much better than Internet Explorer, ecspecially for our dial up users. But it still crashes just as often when my dial up connection crashes. So it doesn't really help me with this no longer allowed to copy and paste my own material from a text pad problem. Thanks for the advice though, I do appreciate such a helpful, and thought out response.

Let me give you a simple tip posted by someone else on this site [A little bit modified to suit your requirement] : type the response on a text pad (note pad) and save it as a html file (untitled.htm) . And now open this file in another window of a browser , select the text you wanted to paste , drag it into responding box ... you should get the text into the responding box . you can submit it .

This doesn't work for me, I've tried that before- the same box pops up saying that copy and pasting your discussions are now longer allowed until you reach the 500 mark ranking.

Well, Prince, I'm not talking about copy and pasting other people's work, which is what made Mylot start this new rule to begin with. If you read my discussion, you'd realize I'm talking about copy and pasting MY OWN WORDS from a text pad, due to how often my internet explorer crashes and makes me lose long discussions I've typed up. They cannot ban me for copy and pasting my own stuff.

I know that you can do it once you've reached the 500 rating rank. My point is, now it's going to take me forever to get that far due to how often my internet explorer crashes. I lose my discussions, and then don't feel like re-typing them, over and over again. It took me four crashes to finally get this original discussion posted. Do you think I'm really going to sit here long enough to reach the 500 mark now?
